I’ve not heard of anyone having a problem with the taillight wiring this way. A split loom taped with electrical tape should be fine. My car just has the tape. The tire is way ahead of it. The tail light has a rubber cup behind it, in the fender well, that the wire passes through. Keeps out the gunk the tire throws up–so far, anyway.

Hmm. Good thought. Murphy does seem to stick his neck where it doesn’t belong.

The majority of gauges are installed like this…
Its just a matter of getting your hand back in there.
Good Luck.

I would not recommend glassing in wires because some guy named Murphy will come for a visit and you have some reason to replace or adding another wire to the bundle

Original routing of wiring on my FF was electrical tape about every 6″ and then routing the bundle of wires through “c” clamps wherever a bolt held body panels to the chassis. I got rid of tape and put the wires is corrugated split wire loom and then used tywraps to secure the loom to the chassis/body.

Paul. That is how the harness I made is run; out the body tub into the engine compartment and along the rear valance horizontal mount, then to the fender well. Like Kall, I’m nervous about the wires being near the spinning tire. I was thinking of glassing in the wires to protect them as I think the tail light wires may be far enough from the…[Read more]

Probably two nuts holding a “U” clamp that is keeping the speedo in the dash. You also have a light and of course the speedo cable that will have to be removed.

I posted this three years ago when I was working on that stage of my TDr:
“IMHO:A basic problem on my FF was that both front and rear lights wiring ran loose and unprotected on the underside of the fenders to the connection point with the lights. I decided that this was a potential problem because the connections could vibrate loose or in the…[Read more]

So it’s definitely the speedo. @toller has one that he is sending me an old one he has so I will try to replace it. Can anyone give a hint of how to go about removing the old one without causing too much damage? I’ve looked at it but can’t figure it out. Below is a pic of what it looks like now. Thanks in advance!

Classic Roadsters Ltd provided a rear harness, that runs through the lower body tub, exiting into the engine compartment. From there, the taillight wiring runs through a small hole through the side wall into the rear fender well. I can take a couple pictures if that would help.

Cliff,
First, let’s be clear that we are talking about the Titling of a vehicle, not “registration” as has been mentioned above.
It is unlikely the 15 digit VIN on your car was assigned by the kit manufacturer. The kit manufacturers usually assigned serial numbers and most provided a serial number plate. Locations for the serial number plate…[Read more]

I found this website http://imcdb.org/ while looking for the name of the car driven by George Sanders on Alfred Hitchcock’s “Foreign Correspondent”. It is great fun to visit to find just about ANY car you’ve ever seen in a movie or on T.V. 💡
It even has…[Read more]
