I’m not advocating this, as I know it flies in the face of all accepted VW cooling principals.
I have a 1776 in my TDr. The cylinder tin (upper and lower), and the rear tin (the sort of separates the top end from the muffler) are installed. No other tin is installed. And the engine compartment is not sealed. I’ve not seen any problems in traffic…[Read more]

New information. I was trying to understand how the VW cooling system worked when I discovered the probable cause of my heating issues. I could feel strong puffs of very hot air coming out by the #2 cylinder, with no apparent duct there. The exhaust was tight, so I traced this to the heat riser, which was unprofessionally installed by so…[Read more]

For those of you who may be considering attending this show, this has been the usual order of events:
We all try to arrive at the Oceanfront Inn (2901 Virginia Beach, Va. 757-422-0445) on Friday afternoon and meet for dinner at Murphy’s (within a walk).
Sat morning we usually have breakfast at the Inn’s restaurant. We generally plan our meet i…[Read more]

I’m in! Arriving Friday.
As of 8:55 on August 4, there are 15 Rock Star registrations. four of them are us!
Now the bad news… I’m driving the Intermeccanica, not my Duchess.

CAN ANYONE ADVISE ME AS TO HOW TO POST A PICTURE?????
I tried every trick I know — in the mean time, anyone interested in seeing the progress on Emma”s new Weber Carb can check out the latest picture in my media tab under Happy Jack….

I’m in at the Oceanfront Inn (757-422-0445) also. Now, I’ve got to figure out whether to “wear” my MiGi or my classic Mini.

Thanks Kent. I’ve used those adapters (we used to call them Fernco’s – I think it was a brand name) many many times but didn’t think of it. Damn, – your memory is a terrible thing to lose.

Roy, you can get rubber boots in the hardware store’s plumbing department that are about 3-4″ long. Might work, but I don’t know how they’d hold up to heat and gasoline. A bit of RTV silicone would help seal against leaks. Make sure you use some kind of metal brace to hold the center section solidly in place.
Should you weld on pieces to extend…[Read more]

One of the fitment surprises we are having is because the prior owner (used manifold) had shortened the legs where it mates up to the rubber/neoprene boots and end pieces. Unfortunately, my son in Virginia Beach, has my MIG welder. We need about 1/2″ longer on each side to be comfortable. Any ideas, short of taking to a welder??

I got my center mount Weber carb and manifold today and it looks pretty good. With Roy’s help, I dismantled it and put the various parts in the dunk tank of carb cleaner and let the parts soak while I removed the Bugspray Carb and manifold from the car. In the process I found that the intake manifold nuts had loosened up on the driver’s sid…[Read more]
