Thanks for all the responses. Fortunately I have two new pressure plates and one is the old style that I need. Just purchased the correct throwout bearing. Now if the weather will cooperate I’ll get the engine in this weekend. I had it in, sort of but it didn’t fit like I believed it should so pulled it yesterday to figure it all out. Have a great…[Read more]

Go with what Ed said. I just remember that I was surprised when things did not slip together like I had planned (hoped).

Ditto Ed’s input. The pressure plate and throwout bearing must match. The sleeve is required for the later style pressure plate, and is not required for the older style with three fingers and a collar.KentT2016-03-17 22:15:01

I think if you don’t have the sleeve (this part?) then you have an early style rig. You’ll want an early style pressure plate or, if you get a later one, also get this collar that goes over the “fingers.”
Most of the VW replacement clutch kits come with the collar assembly. You just remove it if you’ve got the later style box. If you don’t, of… -

Allen, you are right to be careful here. I don’t know the answer to your question, but the clutch disc was changed about 1970. I had bought a 1969 clutch disc for my 1969 engine. Wrong. — I have a 1971 (or later) transmission.

Woody,
I second what Roy said.If you know the manufacturer of your kit, look in the Reference Library and see if we have that manufacturers assembly manual. If you do, download and you should be good to go.If not, we will need a much better description, and pictures will help! -
Royal replied to the topic Mate replicar in the forum General Discussion 9 years, 6 months ago
Click on the “Reference Library” immediately to the left. If the answer to your question can not be found there, we’re going to need a LOT more info about what you have and the car you are putting together.

Very nice car!
The owner put a TON of effort in to it. Even with the bits still to be done, it’s still a deal.Is that a TD Replica.com badge I see on the grill?Worth buying just for THAT!
