Like my Dad used to say, “A little bit’s OK, more is better, too much is just enough”.

I had mine as a 1952 MG in Fort Worth and still had to pass the full safety inspection.
Phoenix Arizona its a 1986 Ford Cortina. (English Ford Escort), and all I have is emissions.Theres no outlet to plug into under the dash, of course, and they dont want to bother to check the tail pipe emissions manually, so I guess I get a free pass. The ne… -

You probably do not need 500HP anyway. Do you?

Well then you see I would have the predicament of having to drive around in the rain with no top! Not that that is a big deal since I can’t drive her right now since she’s leaking 2 of the 3 fluids she carries 😕 (oil and gas)
Anyways, then I would have to pioneer a fiberglass top! And it seems like a much better idea to let you have the fun! -

I agree Roy.
Would love to know what it sold for.I did learn something interesting from the ads on their web site. They include a comment that, if you are interested in buying the car, and are interested in being on the show, to let them know. Sure makes it sound like when Richard sells a car on the show, the selling price is negotiated and a… -

Hey, Mark! I remember you. As I recall, the move to DE was what you were shooting for. Glad it’s working out.
Post the rod build here! Why not? We’ll get you into a TD again in no time.As for me: I’m trying to put a Subaru engine in my car. Build thread at my blog, starting here. There’s also a thread on the board here somewhere. -

Just saw the episode. Richard stole it. When it first showed up on the lot, he said he expected to get $5500 for it. Wish I was there.

Ed, Thanks for the layout . It looks like yours will fit my shell . I have sent out requests to several suppliers and have actual dimensions to refer to. Many thanks.

Derek, I just picked up a fresh box of 50 pair. That should be enough. By the way, why not just put yourself out of your misery and sell me your top. Seems it would be easier to fix yours than for me to make a new one. I’m just sayin”.

I get the feeling that this is going to be a good thread!
I have a fiberglass top that came with my TDr when I purchased her, but it does not fit quite right on the body and the door panels definitely don’t fit. Maybe when I get around to fixing mine you will be done so I can steal a few of your ideas!Best of luck and don’t forget to ponder about… -

And I’d add only that the chances of a chip alone getting you 100 horsepower (or 25 percent more grunt) are pretty slim, imho.
The 1992 LT1 engine (stock for the Vette you’re looking at) was rated at 300 hp at 5000 rpm. (It was probably under-rated, as testers found it revved with power to about 5700). Even at 300 it was a healthy boost from… -

The chip they are referring to is the chip in the cars computer system that control fuel delivery, timing, shift points (if it’s an automatic) etc. These chips are available for a variety of applications and are a common modification made to todays cars. The nice thing about changing the chip is that you can change it back to stock in a minute or so.

[Sigh] I wanted to go for a spin, but had let Percy sit too long in the garage. Battery too low to start. Got it hooked to a charger now, so maybe tomorrow I’ll have better luck. 🙁

Gosh , thanks for all the advice and diagrams. That gives me an idea of what it is suposed to look like. I was concerned about the final fit in relation to the soft top. I guess the’rake’ or aft tilt of the frame must be set when the top is being assembled. The vertical height of the frame is important to me so as not to put the frame too far out…[Read more]
