Mark, I have heard of but not been witness to broken leafs in the beam. If you were to have one or more broken leaves, that side or both would sit lower and possibly cause the tire to rub.
There is a thread here with instructions and pictures as to how to remove some leaves. The procedure for replacing broken leaves would be about the same. C… -

Headlight bracket did not help at all. I tried all kinds of things so i’m back to square one.

I feel your pain my man. I feel your pain.

Mark replied to the topic Front tire rub in the forum VW Based Kits 12 years ago
Thanks Allen. I spent all day trying different thing. Headlight mount move, spacers between VW pan and kit floor I even tried to move the body over on the pan. Nothing works. I need to get longer shocks or cut the tubes to get the tire under the fender. What a pain. I thought these kits were bolt on then hold on. What have I got into.

Ed, the Port Royal stop is a no brainer. 17 was a great run and am looking forward to it again.

Sam, if you can get Ed to suck on the canister and verify that the points move, it’ll probably work for you. If the point plate doesn’t move, then replacement vacuum canisters are more expensive than a used dist with working (but used) canister installed. Only trying to help here.

Looks like a plain old SVA to me–for all I know. The vac canister works. It says “BOSCH” on the bottom. No play in the shaft. The points are pretty well shot. Yours for shipping, if you want.

Instead of a solid rod to prop up the hood I’m using a correctly sized (length) wire.

If she comes out as great as yours did Bill, I’ll be a happy camper.

Ed, yes I would be interested if you have an SVA distr. Also, with your 34 PICT3 carb I assume you are running the SVDA distr. Correct?Sam

Dang! He was leaning toward no.
OK, if anyone flying solo wants to share a hotel room and save $80 I’m game.Meanwhile the PMs are piling up for the run from points north. Boys–any objection to working out way points and ETAs out here in public? We can send each other phone numbers on the back channel if you’re not comfy posting those. -

You are taking a lot more time and care than I ever did. I’ve never used anything finer than 1200 in my life. As a friend of mine is fond of saying…”Good enough for who it’s for”Yours will be beautiful.

Nice, Allen.
Is that a roller job too, like Bill did? -
Royal replied to the topic Carb Adjustment Problem in the forum VW Based Kits 12 years ago
Sam, I just checked ebay and found at least 3. What, I believe, you want is a 113 905 205T or a 231 137 035 or 036. The first number is a VW # and the second two are Bosch #’s. The distributors are the same, just different numbers. See: http://www.oldvolkshome.com/ignition.htm

Man…nothing is ever easy. You confirmed what I was afraid of. I still have the new 34 pict carb that I was thinking of using when I rebuilt the engine.( I had a ’71 beetle years ago and never had the issues with the 34 that many have mentioned) So now it looks like I have to make a choice now on which carb to use or I’ll be buying another distr.…[Read more]

Originally the fender holes are marked…not drilled.

On the back when I ordered my new hubcaps the dealer said that I needed spacers because of the length of the hub. So I got those. I will post photos of my ride (Jennifer) when I finish with the fender. I will also let you know if moving the headlight bracket works.
