That’s pretty bad for a VW based TD. My 300hp 302 V8 delivers me 10 MPG.

I have a VW based kit, 1776 cc engine with a mild cam and a two barrel weber carburetor. I get about 25 mpg overall.

I know that I am getting less than 10 without a doubt, maybe around 5-6 MPG. I was curious to know if I am alone with this issue. I now know that I need to evaluate this deeper sometime in the future.

Stefan,
First, let’s find out what your actual gas mileage is. We’d be able to offer better opinions.
Meanwhile … I had a VW based TDr with a dual port, dual carb, 1776cc engine. Normal mixed local/highway use was a little over 20 mpg.

I feel like my gas mileage is really poor. I feel like I am getting a few miles per gallon, but I do not think I have a leak. Is this normal for the VW based TD?
Thanks,

By chance would anyone have a steering column from the Ford Pinto available? Preferably near southeast PA. My lower bearing has disintegrated and is no longer available.

Yes I already did. David in post #308981 provided the same link. My serial number breaks down to be November or December of 1969.

Rene, you can determine the year of the donor VW using this chart

Don’t think I can help with determining the year of your kit.

@renet Rene, that is exactly what I was referring to. Some states would use the VIN of the donor car as the VIN for the completed replica, other states would assign a new VIN.

Thanks Paul. What’s strange is that the vin I have is NH04001. It has been used for the last 35 years. I have dome history that shows that. It is a number assigned to the car from the state of NH. I think the very 1st owner of the car was from NH and he went to the state to get that vin number. Just wondering why they didn’t use that number on the…[Read more]

@renet, yes. The number stamped into the VW tunnel is the VIN for your VW donor car.
It may have been used as the VIN for the MG replica. But that varies by state.

I have no idea what you’re getting to. I just want to know if the serial number on top of the tunnel is the VIN number

I’m not certain of this, but I understand that 69 was the first year for the IRS transmission and the only year that has two drain plugs for the shifty box! Mine is a 69.

I had a top with side windows made at a marine upholstery shop. They did not even have my old top as a pattern. We discussed several times concerning an appropriate design. It turned out well and the cost was a little more than what MGMagic charged for a top. Down side was that I was turned down several times by at least 10 shops before f…[Read more]

The number I located on top of the tunnel would that also be considered the VIN number? If no one knows the answer I guess the only way to find out is if there is a member her that has a 1969 VW bug sedan to locate that number on theirs and compare it to their known VIN number.
If that is not the VIN number then who assigns a number and when? Is…[Read more]
