Yes, it is true about residual charge on the windings. That is the purpose of the charging indicator light circuit, however. A good article from SpeedyJim’s web page.

Oh, sorry. After I put my brain back on, I realize that the picture is of your grate which I think is quite nice.

Maybe, but I won’t be doin it, I was thinking (DANGER/WARNING) more like the mesh grill in a blower Bentley or the like.

So, I guess yours is lost or not handsome enough.
I wonder if the grate from a gas grill could be adapted and look good?? Chrome or porcelain black?

I think you need to excite the field windings in your alternator. I had the same symptom when I put the Suby in Bridget.
Here’s a vid showing how it’s done with a Delco GM one.

Is your alt light a led? If so, it will not work. Must be an incandescent and is essential to make it charge. There is a way to use led’s, but it is very involved. I have noticed with my Bosch alternator, that when I first start the car, I need to bump the throttle to get the system “woke up”. Here is one link with a diagr…[Read more]

Thanks, I’ll be able to find mounts a several sources for the chev v8 at Speedway, Summit, Jegs etc. I’m thinking (DANGER/WARNING) that I’m going to use the tube front mount from Speedway and the rear will be something like you used. I’m now thinking I’ll mount the front suspension about 18″ in front of the radiator shell, someone suggested I…[Read more]

Motor mounts are custom. Used donut style mounted on a flat plate welded to frame rail. Then used plate and square tubing from engine to donut. Mount interfered with oil filter so switched to remote filter. Transmission mount is stock from Camaro. It just happened fit into the frame cross member that was for the Chevette manual trans. Fr…[Read more]

What motor mount did you use? what transmission and mount did you use? radiator? I noticed you mention front steering issues, I’m planning on using a Fiero complete front as it is a direct bolt in with a good amount of performance upgrades available.

Heymoe, The most neglected circuit on a fiberglass bodied car, be it a vintage corvette or a VW powered kit car is the voltage regulator ground wire. I recommend a 10ga. black wire with eyelets, from the block to the voltage regulator mounting bolt. Start there, and clean all your charging circuit wire connections.

Hey folks-
Having an alternator issue / alt warning light issue that I can’t figure out. My TD is based on a 74 VW. The alt warning light was disconnected when I picked it up and obviously the ammeter was showing a constant discharge.
The alternator is an external Voltage Regulator type and the brushes all seem good. The D+ lead goes to the a…[Read more]

Hey Folks,
The Ford TDr (aka Many Penny) came without overriders for the bumpers (they were optional on this CMC kit WAY back in the 70’s/80’s)
Anyone have a few spares laying around that they would like to sell???
(The one you see on the car I borrowed from the BCW TDr. It looks and feels like a “real” overrider off of an original ’52 T…[Read more]
