Updating this thread rather than creating a new one. There are more updates on the way. This time to the underlying operating system. Should not be a big deal.
On August 14, 2024, between 3:00 am and 4:00 am PST, we will be upgrading the operating system on your shared server from Ubuntu Focal 20.04 to Ubuntu Jammy Jellyfish 22.04. During the…

Have you tried a manual reset of the trip meter? That might realign all the numbers.(Maybe)

When I was working on it, I accidentialy slid the shaft out a little which hold the numbers for the odometer. When I finally put it back together, there was one number that wasn’t aligned with the others. Stupid me. Well I could live with one number being off a little. So I put on about 40 miles today and now they’re 3 numbers not aligned. The tri…[Read more]

The chassis serial # which is located on the on the top of the tunnel between the bucket seats (if you don’t have bucket seats you may have to remove the seat back rest)forward of the transaxel linkage access cover. You can then cross reference the number to those in this table. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php

I recently purchased a MG replica. It is on a VW pan. All I can say is that the rear end has independent suspension. Someone told me it could be a 69 or a 70. If I need parts like shocks, Balljoints, tie rods brakes and whatever else, I’m sure the auto parts store will ask me what year is it. Thanks for your help

We’ll, as I figuired, the repair guy couldn’t take it apart without destroying the bezel. I called VDO and at one time like 15 years ago, bezels were available through VDO but not anymore. There is no way to remove a bezel without destroying it or at least at a minimum it would end up being warped so bad it would look like hell.
I did chuck…[Read more] -

I had that issue with a motorcycle fuse block many years ago. What I eventually discovered that corrosion had built up on the clips holding the glass fuse. That caused a heat build up that loosened the solder inside the fuse and it detached itself! My headlight went out at night on a curve – exciting! The fuse looked good by sight, but nothing was…[Read more]

Figured it out. When I looked at the fuse block originally, all the glass fuses looked good and they were. I traced the wiring as far as I could. Noticed that the wiring was a certain color for the low beam. Went to the fuse panel again, located which fuse was on that certain color wiring and removed the fuse. Swapped it out for another one. Did…[Read more]

I went with the 4 tip that you suggested, I am very happy with it. I think it delivers a good sound for a pretty cheap price. I showed the old man and he really likes it.
Getting those heater boxes out was tough with the way that the engine and the extra framing sits in my car, I decided to go with the unsafe and risky method of using a sawzaw to…[Read more]

Dale,
This isn’t going to directly answer your question…but…
Shocks should not be used to level a car or adjust ride height. The earlier term for shocks (dampers) is far more descriptive of their sole purpose. They control rebound, when your suspension is compressed.
If the car is not sitting level, there must be some other issue going on.…[Read more]

Stephen,
How to describe sound with words… how about enhanced VW? Slightly louder than a stock VW, but a much nicer sound. Certainly not overbearing. Not sure it factors into your equation, but more info better than less … this was on a 1776 VW engine.
Top down, just a nice burble from the rear. Top up, seems the roof acts like a megaphone,…[Read more]
