Other than old faithful Wild Bill (billnparts), is anybody going to try and beat Ed and Bridget, his “new” Subaru powered TDr in this year’s Autocross?
Anybody will tell you that it’s a lot more about how your car handles and how you drive than it is about horsepower.
December 19, 2014 at 10:09 pm #262449For the record, I am planning to set the record. 👿
Fingers crossed the dang thing is viable!December 20, 2014 at 12:56 pm #262450I accept the challenge. Spoke to the gentleman who will be building the Hillclimb cage today. He has startrd on some preliminary plates and will be coming to my garage early next week to take some measurements and get some tubing bent prior to having to take the car to his shop. I’m thinking of coming to Carlisle with the cage in place just to be different.(Weather permitting. The cross brace for the seat belt harness won’t allow for the top to go up.)

"Drive Happy"December 20, 2014 at 9:46 pm #262451Bill I wouldn’t bet on me to beat you with Bridget with or without your cage on, but I’m gonna do my dirtiest. For sure I’ll have more power-to-weight. The only trouble will be chassis, suspension, and the fact that I–as we have seen–have no clue how to drive.

"Drive Happy"December 21, 2014 at 4:49 pm #262453Looks like one event in VA, Feb 1, Bill.
“Chillycross.”Don’t think I’m gonna make that one. I did enquire at NASA about their classing & etc.Seems to me we’re about equal, engine-wise. I’m guessing your rig weighs 300 lbs more, but that any advantage I might derive from that would be quickly wiped out by your superior tread width, track width, gearing, chassis stiffness, distribution of mass and, it must be said again, racing experience.Hope I can at least make a credible challenge.December 21, 2014 at 5:15 pm #262454Ed, you’re a riot! Is “distribution of mass” the same as balance? You really ought to check your weight on each wheel using my bathroom scale technique.

You may have a significant Steve Martin “wild and crazy guy” advantage.
edsnova2014-12-21 19:34:54January 11, 2015 at 6:43 pm #262455Looks like we have a celebrity in our midst. Shu’s car made the ad for Carlisle in the Car builder magazine. Can’t tell, but I think it’s Dale’s son at the wheel. Sorry Dale, memory lapse, I don’t recall his name.

"Drive Happy"January 12, 2015 at 8:17 am #262456Bill,
I think that was the year before last with me in the drivers seat. Josh my oldest was driving last year and I think lowered the time a bit. I believe I am in the picture because of my driving determination – you guys need to work on yours a bit – just saying.Josh was driving mine with loose heads if you remember – I was just hoping it would survive and allow me to get home. Fixed now and all is good – not sure if I will make the run this year or not.April 8, 2015 at 8:06 pm #262457OK, who’s else is giving it a go this year? Ed, I know you have to give the new power plant a go. Schu, you have to go, you’re the poster boy. Gabe, I’d like to see what that custom frame V6 will do. As before, we’ll try to reserve an entire run time for Saturday morning so we can all run together. For those who have never done this, try it you’ll like it. Check out this site if you’re unsure.

"Drive Happy"April 8, 2015 at 9:19 pm #262458Just getting to Bridget now after my “detour” with the truck. Lot of work to do before Carlisle. But doable.
April 28, 2015 at 7:30 pm #262459Well, we have Ed and Happy Jack confirmed. Adding myself that’s only three. Possibility of Danny and Bill from the Speedster owners. Roy, Shu? Paul, you want to play with the new car?

"Drive Happy"April 28, 2015 at 9:51 pm #262460Danny’s a definite. Don’t know the others yet. I’m hoping to get my new brakes and stuff all squared away. Riots are cutting into my garage time.
April 28, 2015 at 9:54 pm #262461Now there’s an excuse one doesn’t hear too often, “Riots are cutting into my garage time.” Hope you’re staying safe Ed!
I’ll be on the sidelines with Wobby’s voice resonating in my ears, “Nothing good ever come from racing.”

April 28, 2015 at 10:01 pm #262462I’m afraid that I too will be an observer. I’ve been unable to see (double vision) for about 2 months now. Just completed cataract surgery last week and hope to get new glasses to correct double vision later this week. If I can’t see, I will be cancelling the whole shebang. If these glasses work, I’ve got a ton of work to do in the next 2 weeks, if not – hope to see you in VaBch in October.
April 28, 2015 at 11:33 pm #262463Say it ain’t so, Roy!
April 28, 2015 at 11:36 pm #262464Paul: I’m home, listening to the scanner while studlier colleagues brave the riot cops after curfew. Looks so far like tonight is much less crazy than last night. With any luck it will tail off. But when Friday comes and they don’t announce indictments (and they won’t–it’s not time) I expect more knuckleheads to get all excited.
Meanwhile there are hundreds of adults of good will out in the streets trying to keep peace. There are total a-holes on both sides of them, some in hoodies, some in US-issue cop battle gear.My brothers in the national media are just waiting and hoping for blood and fire, and I am sad.April 29, 2015 at 9:38 am #262465Not sure if I will do the auto cross or not at this point. Had engine problems last year – most likely not related but at any rate may just be a game time decision.
April 29, 2015 at 10:18 am #262466Good to hear Ed. Stay safe!

April 29, 2015 at 12:48 pm #262467It’s hardly “racing.” C’mon guys!
April 29, 2015 at 2:19 pm #262468Point taken Ed.

April 29, 2015 at 4:21 pm #262469Bah! Kids always drive crazy. Everyone knows!
April 29, 2015 at 5:02 pm #262470Or maybe he just lost it!
Still, I plan to admire my friends’ driving prowess from the top-o-the-hill!Paul Mossberg

May 1, 2015 at 4:35 pm #262471Got my new glasses today and once again can see. No double vision.
So, I’ll be there, but probably just jumping up and down, cheering on the sidelines with Wobby and Paul and our pom poms.
May 1, 2015 at 7:05 pm #262472Pom poms! Now THAT I’ve gotta see.
