For the Allison owners out there…here is a great picture from the 1983 Chicago Auto Show:
More pictures from that show are here:Paul Mossberg

March 12, 2013 at 3:33 pm #255046Wow, they look good roped off like that, eh?
March 12, 2013 at 3:40 pm #255047Pretty! Look like real wire wheels with knock offs on both cars. I thought that all Allisons were VW based. Either that is wrong or someone else (before me) figured out how to put authentic British wires on a VW. eh? I have noticed, throughout my life, that all of my really great discoveries have already been previously discovered by someone else.
March 12, 2013 at 3:47 pm #255048They were VW or Nissan 200 SX. The SX engine was an overhead cam, dual-plug job with a 5 speed, as I recall it. Would make a really peppy TD.
Don’t know what the wheel specs were but did see a VW 4-bolt pattern true wire bolt on that you couldn’t tell wasn’t a Dunlap knock-off if you weren’t staring at it through the spokes. One of the members had that car–last year’s calendar circa May has it. Could’ve been the 2011 calendar…
March 12, 2013 at 5:34 pm #255049I sure wish I could find a luggage rack off one of them. I like the way they fold up.
March 12, 2013 at 6:05 pm #255050Montie, please don’t think that I am being petty and picking on your words, but doesn’t the luggage rack on a TD actually fold down, rather than up? I seem to remember this but am not certain since I sold my TF-1500 over 39 years ago.
March 12, 2013 at 6:12 pm #255051Semantics. Down to put luggage on and up to stow.

March 12, 2013 at 11:48 pm #255053Two styles of luggage rack were available…
The foldable one (I’ll let you existentialists debate whether it was up or down
)
And a fixed luggage rack that mounted above the fuel tank.
Both would be accurate for our replicas.
Correct re the wires. Dunlop had a VW bolt pattern true wire. From a distance, very hard to see that it was a bolt on.

March 18, 2013 at 6:50 pm #255059No I have not done that yet. It has 4,200 miles on it. everything works and has all the original items. Allison steering wheel w/ name,sticker on the back by engine, and plate on left side by drivers door , and nameplate in glove box. Just did a big vw show in Lakeland Fl. Sun. 760 VWs won first place kit car all years.
March 18, 2013 at 7:44 pm #255060I have had a bcw schwepp, a fibrefab white and an allison. All 3 are on my profile pics
March 18, 2013 at 9:13 pm #255061Wow. A triple-play.
March 18, 2013 at 9:26 pm #255062Wow, for sure. I think this is more like a “hat trick”. A triple play requires help from another team-mate.
