In addition to swapping out the generator for an alternator, I will also be replaceing the gauges. Mainly because the speedometer does not work, but also because I am not sure if I need to change the amp meter for a volt meter. The power under my TD replica is a ’68 VW – the question now is – what gauges should I have? The holes in the dash that need to be filled are 2 = 3 3/8″ will be used for Speedo & Tach. 3 other smaller holes – 1 for Fuel – it’s a no brainer and the other 2 small holes should be ??
I have 4 small holes for gauges. Fuel, oil pressure, oil temperature and amps but I’ve never really like an amp gauge. I guess it’ll be your preference but with three small gauges I’d go with Dick’s suggestion and run gas, oil press and amp/volt.
