Roy, I can read, and yes, there is time to play with the car between runs. Adjust tire pressures and what not. You may even see some folks with remote infrared thermometers checking tire temperatures.

"Drive Happy"March 10, 2013 at 9:00 am #254862Roy: you “rolled one?” As in “rolled the car over on its roof?”
March 10, 2013 at 9:16 am #254863Nah, – just broke the bead and rolled the tire off the rim resulting in a superflat. (And I must confess that it was on Lake Muskoday road, not at Watkins Glen or Lime Rock.) Very scary but surprisingly little damage.
March 10, 2013 at 12:44 pm #254864I also thought you meant you put it over.

"Drive Happy"March 10, 2013 at 12:58 pm #254865That was a long time ago, when I was young and foolish and stupid. One down, 2 to go. Oh, to be 62 again.. I barely remember it. The guys around here said that you guys would all laugh when an true old geezer (me) pulls up to the AutoX starting line. I told them that they were wrong. Right? eh? Right?
March 10, 2013 at 2:48 pm #254866I went to Morgantown this morning. First AutoX of the season. Roy, much older folk than you running. My son was running his VW. I went to say hello to my helmet. I ran there last year, lots of room and quite fast.

Check Ebay under Open face motorcycle helmet ( Item # 400313318702 – G-Force – the one I bought ) – and lots others for sale starting at 19.00 plus shipping.March 10, 2013 at 7:02 pm #254868That helmet only has a DOT rating. It does not have the required Snell rating.
That’s why they’re so cheap.

Bummer – I did not realize it required Snell – still OK at Carlisle?Maybe I can send back??March 11, 2013 at 7:22 pm #254870They don’t check that close at Carlisle. Its mostly for fun there. If you plan to run a “real” ( serious points event) SCCA AutoX event, they will check the spec. I had to retire my full face when they upgraded the spec.

But I will look damn cool doing so!
March 11, 2013 at 7:40 pm #254872As I did last year, I’d like to run on Friday afternoon when I arrive. Then if I break it, I have time to fix it. I don’t foresee a problem, but I an a firm believer in the principles of Murphy’s law. I think that’s where the Boy Scouts came up with “Be Prepared”

"Drive Happy"March 11, 2013 at 8:09 pm #254873Bill, For some reason I thought you raced Saturday morning along w/ Ed? Anyway – I guess I will keep the hat and loan if anyone has a big head like mine. I think we should all do it the same time for support – I know I will need it. They are doing the Friday night downtown thing again this year – I may give that a try if anyone else is up to it.
March 11, 2013 at 9:38 pm #254874I agree with Dale. I’d like to run as a group….as in a “mess” of TDrs.
I would like to see Bill go last since I might hurt myself trying to beat him if I know what his time is. (Its a character flaw of mine: I really can’t handle losing.) And please don’t talk about breaking things, I will be a long way from home. My wife still doesn’t believe that I am serious. I’m not convinced that Autocross 450 miles away from my home is very mature, but I never claimed maturity, only age.March 11, 2013 at 9:42 pm #254875Do any of you have a digital video camera? That would be super cool to have a short of the group AutoX’ing.
I think anybody over 65 should be able to start from the red tees.March 11, 2013 at 10:07 pm #254876Vids= a must. I have a decent Canon DAT camera and a (very cheap, crappy) one that records to a chip. What I’d like to have–and don’t (yet)–is one of those “Hero” cams that shoots wide angle alla time. People wear those and they make hella nice vids.
We will find a way to get vids on this–our own, not proprietary Carlisle events vid.
March 11, 2013 at 10:17 pm #254877Ed, we could give your paper an exclusive.
March 12, 2013 at 3:27 am #254878I’ll try to get my son’s “Go Pro”. That will give an on board shot.
