    Sometimes when out driving my car i will let up on the gas and it will backfire Is this something to be concerned about .

    Mine has all but stopped doing that since I set the idle. I believe it was running way too rich before, and that contributed to it. Your mileage may vary. But it might do to tune her up, in order:

    1. check valve tappet clearance and adjust as needed
    2. set the timing
    3. adjust the idle and carb mixture

    As an added to Eds list….remember to adjust the valves with the engine COLD. newkitman2012-04-22 10:54:01

    Greg , I thing you have the information now , but i would also do a compression test. most of these engines are old and may need a valve job, good luck    Dan

    Thanks,I had the valves adjusted and the next time i take it out i will turn up the idle.That will be awhile snow storm tonight over a foot of snow expected
