Hey Folks,
I’m getting my FF-II TDr “almost” road worthy so as I await the replacement gas tank (car died on the side of the road 5 miles from home after an 80 mile test run — rust, crap, dirt, etc. clogged the fuel filter). In the down time, I started to look over my BCW TDr “hot car” for telltale signs of developing problems.Well, after I dried out the passenger side carpet, pulled the carpet and dried out the footwell, I looked up and saw sunlight through the cloth top…Time to start researching a replacement top.Anyone have thoughts re: a source for a top, side curtains and tonneau for the BCW? TDr?I looked up the stuff on Rock Auto and they have Robbins tops, curtains and tonneaus for a really good (I think) price. Problem is, the parts are for a “real” 1952 TD and the side curtains are metal framed not zippered.Suggestions????Thanks,JackSeptember 1, 2013 at 6:05 pm #257541I’d call the guy at MG Magic and see if his tops will fit a BCW. He’d likely know…

InactiveCheck with a local boat shop. They make covers and tops for boats. Also local auto upholstery shop. Prices can sometimes be a welcome surprise.
September 1, 2013 at 7:24 pm #257543Ditto that. Go to a place that installs ‘vert tops and show them what you have, see if there is any interest. Assuming everything you have fits well it should be an easy replacement for a few hunnert.
Boat upholstery place will almost certainly want the job and will probably bid it lower. They do this kind of thing all day in those places. If you are truly mad you could think about making a legit TD rig fit. The side curtain frames are just flat stock, and the hardware is available from Moss. One of our members, as I recall, adapted a Moss Motors top to his VW-based replica (not a BCW) and it fit pretty well, if his pics were any indication.September 1, 2013 at 9:08 pm #257544Do you have amish in your area. I live in a area that has lots of amish and have talked to a couple of them who own tarp shops. One of them said he could do a new interior with top and boot for 500 dollars. The other said he could do a convertible top and boot for 200 dollars I asked him if I could bring it there this winter and he said storage would not be a problem .(Maybe he’s going put it in the stall with his horse). If you go the amish route.I might be able to help
September 1, 2013 at 9:45 pm #257545Thanks all — lots of good ideas. Greg, I like the Amish angle — although there is no Amish community near me in Coastal NC, I have a friend who lives in KY in the middle of an Amish area — will have to ask about Tarp shops. Good idea on contacting MG Magic — thanks Kent And I have used a local Yacht Canvas shop in the past to modify my tonneau to go around the roll bar on one of the other cars — did not think of asking them to quote making a complete new top from scratch using my old top as a template- I’ll post as I get more facts over the next few days.

"Drive Happy"September 2, 2013 at 2:49 pm #257547Just heard from Brad @ MG MAGIC — no top for my BCW — his will not fit fit the BCW TDr…and he knows of no source for the tops for that car.
…so tomorrow I’ll try the local boat upholstery shop and see what they say. -
