This one is different. I bench bled the MC and after installing it and hooking up the reservoir, I bled the brakes. All went well and I was very happy. Topped off the reservoir yesterday afternoon. This morning the reservoir is empty on one half of the reservoir and a puddle is sitting on the bottom of the chassis below the MC. A thorough look at the master cylinder and I found the fluid is leaking out the top of the MC between the rubber plug and the MC body. Do they sell the rubber plug at the top of the MC that holds the supply fitting? The front portion of the master cylinder is fine. Any ideas?

Don’t know for sure, Allen, but I’d suspect that the rubber plug may be unique to the manufacturer of the master cylinder (Beck-Arnley or whoever) based upon the casting.  The pistons are the same size inside, the lines are in the same location, and the mounting flange bolt pattern is the same — but there may be other variations in the casting.

I’d suggest replacing the whole thing… Sorry!

Kent – I got checking around and mid America does make the plug with a inlet tube for less than $10 each. But I don’t know…I’m leaning towards just replacing the MC again. Just a feeling….

Hate to say it, but I had a similar problem this year. Ended up that I had a hairline crack in a new master cylinder – it’s almost impossible to tell at the time, since you (or at least, me) will get brake fluid over pretty much everything. Also, I got a brand new stop light switch that leaked fluid. Lots of wasted time.

New master cylinder on order. Now on to tires and rims.
