Well I finally feel well enough to take a few photos of my build of Moneypenny. Currently I am not ceretain of the fit of the front fenders along the front portion. They are supposed to match up but as can be seen by the photos they do not. Shoulder has been giving me fits so I took a couple of days off to mend and I refuse to work on Easter. Anyway…you can see all the photos at http://www.fotki.com/Allen1209/

Mine was just as bad. Mount the radiator shroud to the bonnet side panels so that they wil l hold the side panels at the proper angle and distance apart. Then the bottom of the front wings will be properly spaced apart. After that the angle of the wings will be drooping a bit. This droop will be held up when you mount the headlight mounting arms. Only then will you really know where the wings will meet at the front air dam.

Allen, that’s an incredible chronicle of your build.

Great job with all the photos – much appreciated!  I can’t help with any advice.  Mine has the one-piece front apron and grill surround, in addition to “radiator” side-post mounted headlights  –not even considering the fact that I didn’t assemble it.  I assume from looking that yours is a later CMC-Fiberfab kit…

Mine is an 84 CMC/Fiberfab kit. Some of the pieces appear to be Fiberfab and some CMC. The poorer fitting pieces I think are the CMC pieces. The Fiberfab pieces fit as they should. This leads me to believe that the original owner purchased the kit during the time CMC was acquiring/buying out Fiberfab. But I’m getting there.

Update. Finally have the rear body space taken care of ad moved to installing the grille. PROBLEM! (Like what else is new.) Anyhow…it seems whoever made the cuts on the kit cut one side cowl straight vertically at the front. But the pax side was cut at an angle. The assembly instructions show the cut gets wider as you go from bottom to top on the front edges of the side cowls. The pax side cowl was cut to wider from the top down rather than from the bottom up. I’m either going to have to order a pair of side cowls or work some fiberglass magic. Costwise and parts availability I guess its hello “fiberglass magic.” More to come later. newkitman2013-07-06 18:34:53

    Keep the faith Allen.

    You’ll get there.

Although I am grateful I’m the original builder of my cars. She has a few mistakes. But at least I know where they are!

You have a tougher task resurrecting someone else’s work!

Thanks Paul. It is a little frustrating. I just wish whoever made the cuts…didn’t. But I’ll get there. Just a slight setback. As for the rest, I’m building my engine and the build is coming along very nicely. Nothing special; just a stock 1600 for now. The case for the 1776 is ordered and I’ll build that engine over the winter. I just have to pick a cam and carb setup. newkitman2013-07-06 19:37:16

Before starting Part 5 of Building Moneypenny, I took care of the front end problems EXCEPT for final fit. Decided to paint the fiberglass repair before the final fit. I got a quart can of paint with MGTD Red written on the lid. Took the can out last evening and shook it up and heard nothing. Guess the paint hardened since 1984. Opened the can and the red was a hard lump of red with what looked like quartz crystals on top of that. Off to the paint shop for lunch to have them make a quart of jel coat for me. I have a piece of the original car that was cut to fit the gas tank to use for the color match. More news and photos in Part 5.

Thanks Ed. Before starting assembly I buffed out all the parts. Need to do some minor touch up but she’ll buff out great. Just have to keep plugging away at her a little each day until she’s done.

Not yet. Besides completing the TDR I have to go through the local registration process hassle. GA is starting to complicate things. It should be as simple as registering a dune buggy. But my target date is early Feb or mid April.

Well I did the 1st coat on the front of the right side cowl. Paint looked to be a really close match. Then……….the paint dried. Way darker once dry. Fortunately its just the 1st coat but back to ye olde paint shoppe I go. Maybe they can go a little brighter red by adding a tad of orange or white. newkitman2013-10-04 09:49:10

Haven’t posted on Moneypenny’s build in a bit. Surgery and bad weather has interfered a ton. But I’m getting back on track. Installed my engine and then stared to install the cooling tin on the bottom the engine. Driver’s side tin slightly damaged and had to straighten a tab out. However…during the install, I didn’t have the bottom tins on and the engine slid on the jack just a little but enough to damage a pushrod tube. Ended up having to pull the Rt. cylinder head to replace the pushrod tube. Luckily the pushrod was not damaged. Got everything back together Wednesday night and am now working the rear valance. After that its on to the doors, windshield, carpet and top. Almost forgot. I also installed the new starter. Need a nut for the bottom stud for the starter. Anyone know the size I need? More to come later. Monday I will rewire the dash. I crimped the connections and some are loose. I’m going to solder them to be sure. Like Ed says…More fun per $ ratio.
