May 22, 2012 at 8:29 am #250569Excellent pictures.
Had a great time at Carlisle and am already looking forward to attending next year. AND parking my TD next to Paul’s. (Yes Rich. Paul really does have a TD) Great meeting all of the TD folks. Let’s hope well have at least 12 there next year.
One thing I missed while there (because I was lazy sat morning) was the seminar on How to Build Your Kit Car in 70 Days. Did anyone attend that seminar? And if so, does anyone have any notes or handouts from it? I’d sure like to see what they had.Anyway…let’s plan (i.e start saving $$$) for nesxt year’s Carlisle event. It was my first year and I had a blast. Even after the server dropped my supper on the floor. Thanks folks for having Linda and I there.Allen Caron

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackMay 22, 2012 at 9:41 pm #250570So glad you made it, Allen. Sorry I didn’t get to give you a turn behind Bridget’s wheel. I thought we’d talked about that.
Also glad Linda made it. Will get Karen to return next year, and hope Lois (Dale’s wife) and Roy’s wife (dang! Roy, what’s your wife’s name again?) can make it. Wives are necessary so that i don’t get too self-conscious on the ice cream run.
By the way, I put some more photos here–blogged it.
May 23, 2012 at 5:37 am #250571Ed, It’s Julie. You posted some great shots and your blog is a fun read.
Change your oil and lets troubleshoot your low pressure/overheat(?) problem. Turns out that when my engine acted similarly: bad/worn out oil pump.May 23, 2012 at 10:45 am #250572Julie! Dang! Sorry about that. She’s a trooper.
And why did we not track down Allen and his wife & kidnap them on the ice cream run? Should’ve put them both in my car and rode with you.
Regrets, regrets.
Right on the oil change. Gonna re-set the timing this week, back it off a few degrees, then reset the idle. Betting that gets most of it. Oil change is due & will check the valve lash then. Hopefully all by this weekend, but inlaws coming, so maybe not. I’ll post it up.
Thanks for the kind words about the blog.
May 23, 2012 at 12:04 pm #250573Ed,
Linda and I were looking for the folks that sell the Kit Car Builder magazine. Can’t get one here in GA so we subscribed at Carlisle. Plus…I scored some needed parts and a couple of grill badges. AND…a set of actual (London ONLY) vehicle license plates. That will look great on the front bumper of my TD “Moneypenny”.Allen Caron

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackMay 23, 2012 at 7:35 pm #250574Well, I’ve been driving myself crazy on how to post photos. I came close to smashing this
computer a couple of times. Anyhow, I think I got it.
Here are a few I took. This was a great weekend. Great weather, great people.
Roy, I’d like to know how far behind you I was when I arrived at your brother
in law’s house on Sunday.
Nothing broke this weekend…another plus.
Definitely gotta do this again.
Roy and Julia on PA Turnpike.

"Drive Happy"May 23, 2012 at 8:44 pm #250575Bill, We were there about 15 minutes before you arrived. Will do about lunch, but it may be a while. Glad to have met you. You guys are all a fun bunch.
May 24, 2012 at 5:51 am #250576Well, we made it back. Pulled into my drive at 6pm. A little over 1100 miles towing with another 350 while MiGi was under her own power. Like Bill, we were fortunate to have no breakdowns of any sort. Our TD’s are so light, they tow beautifully (four wheels on the ground). I was pulling with a smallish 2008 Mercury Mariner SUV with a 3.0 V6 auto. I usually get 26mpg. Towing MiGi, I didn’t use OD except on the flats and got 22mpg. Usually drove about 5mph below the speed limit. Any of you VW powered TDers that do not own a tow bar are either very young or are missing out on some of the long distance fun. The VW tow bar attaches with no tools, and with portable magnetic trailer lights (U-Haul sells them) getting hooked up takes only about 5 minutes (10 if you take a break). While chasing Wobby to southern Vermont to get ice cream, I got quite the sun/wind burn on my nose. Richard says that it is perfectly ok to speed up to 70 in a 50mph zone while passing a farm vehicle on a windy hilly 2 lane road with two yellow lines in the Amish countryside of Pa. (It seemed to work for all of us, but I think that it is only ok if your blood/ice cream level is above .08.)

Hysterical! I am laughing out loud! And I can’t wait to join in the chase next year!PMOSSBERG2012-05-24 10:57:52

May 24, 2012 at 11:13 am #250578It’s legal to pass that way ONLY if the farm vehicle is at least, as the old Rush tune put it, “two lanes wide.”
