Good evening TD folks. Trying to decide what color carpet to order for my TD. Moneypenny is bright red with a white interior, door panels and top. Your mission, should you choose to accept, is to suggest an interior carpet color that will go good with Moneypennys color combination. If you are or any member of your IMF force are caught while performing this mission, the secretay will disavow any knowledge of your existence. (Sorry folks…been watching a Mission Impossible marathon and couldn’t resist). No…this tape will NOT self destruct in 10 seconds.
Thanks.

August 8, 2011 at 9:42 pm #245724Allen, I vote for black carpet.I think it would go well with your color combinition. and if my memory is correct, the MGs all came with black carpet. Don’t know if you are trying to be as authentic as possible or just looking for a well matching interior ,it’s your car ,your choice.
I also prefer to do the side panels and the area behind the seat in the same material as the seat and door panels instead of with carpet material. That too is how the original MGs are done. My London Roadster came that way and while the carpet on the floor has faded over the years, the vinyl looks good as new. I hope to eliminate the carpeted panels in my BCW as I get arround it.
August 8, 2011 at 10:12 pm #245725My original thought was a beige color carpet. Then sometime last week I changed to leaning towards Black. Not sure how the black carpet around the doors will look with the white door panels. I do like the idea of black vinyl.
Larry are you suggesting doing only the floor carpet in black and the side panels in white vinyl? Hmm……..something to ponder.

That is how the Duchess is done. The seats, door panels, and side panels are all the same color (in my case, white). The carpet does not wrap up around the doors.
The “side panels” begin under the dashe, run under the doors, and continue up the sides behind the seat back.
The black carpet covers the floors, and the floor & rear panel of the space behind the seat.

August 9, 2011 at 7:04 am #245728Thanks for all the replies and thoughts.
I like Larry and Paul’s idea of black carpet and then vinyl sides. Paul I think white on the sides will fit the color scheme better than black sides so decided to go with that. You say black carpet for the floors and the rear panel behind the seats. That makes sense because having white vinyl on that park might cause a reflection and hinder vision out the rear window when the top is up and a pretty bright spot in the rearview mirror with the top down. And I think I’ll go with a piece of black carpet on the rear side of the seatback rather than black vinyl. Thanks again for the ideas. As they say down hea…y’all rock.

The color and finishes web site is a stunning addition to the forum. It will enable any of us who are striving for an authentic appearance to be more accurate. The grill and engine colors are a rare find. I can see a front engine replica with the correct engine and filter colors confusing people who don’t know what an original engine looks like.
Thank you
August 9, 2011 at 9:14 am #245730Allen, Just like Paul said! I forgot about the back of the seat and the floor and rear panel . Black carpet is what works best in those areas.
August 9, 2011 at 9:43 am #245731That web site is awesome.

August 12, 2011 at 11:02 pm #245732Paul and Larry,
Going to make/cut templates for the carpet tomorrow. Then get them to Over the Top, a local convertible top, carpet and upholstery shop to make the carpet for me. They did the seats for my Ghia and do just about all work for the local Mustang club . Excellent workmanmship and prices. And they have the white vinyl that matches closely to what I have for the doors and seats. Might either of you remember how much vinyl material you needed for the car? Is 7 – 10 yards to much? Also what color piping/seal do you have around the door opening? Thanks guys.

Classic Roadsters provided pre-sewn side panels and door panels. And, pre-cut and bound carpeting. All the Duchess builder had to do was install them.
The door panels were pre-edged with piping in the same color as the interior panels. I added weather stripping to seal the door opening,
I’m not able to help you with the dimension info. Sorry!

August 13, 2011 at 9:11 am #245734Allen, All the trim/piping is the same color as the seats and panels on both of my cars. I think that some of the newer MGs used piping that was a different color but to my knowledge ,the TDs always matched the piping to the rest of the material.
Can’t help with the amount of material needed.
August 13, 2011 at 11:41 am #245735Black, cut pile, no edge binding.
I bought a roll of marine carpet for the purpose and it’s looking pretty decent so fat.
August 13, 2011 at 3:10 pm #245736Ed, Where do you buy ”fat” cut pile carpet?

August 30, 2011 at 7:03 pm #245739Well I just got white, marine grade vinyl today. Took the door panel leather/vinyl to Hancock Fabric and matched the color perfectly. Bought 3 yards from a 52 inch wide roll. That’ll do the front firewall, the two sides (front to back), a shift boot, and perhaps behind the seat back. May just stay with black carpet on the seat back. Oh yeah…total cost for the marine grade vinly was $23.90 plus tax. Color me a happy camper!
