I pulled the fuel rail and yes, #4 was not squirting. I put it on the bench and the coil is NFG. So new injector. ($100.00 bucks each at the local parts store) But I found an on-line dealer (Who’s local to me) that has a set of 4 for $98.00. That means between fixing the electrical at the foundry I’ll need to find time to run down and get a set.
The rail comes in and out super easy. So changing injectors is a snap.Ed, If I understand the system correctly the computer uses the O2 feed-back to set air/fuel ratio. And if you have a completely dead hole (Like I did) it really messes up the O2 sensor which can cause all kinds of problems.
So if I fix the injector problem it very well could fix some of the A/F problem.

February 12, 2011 at 10:03 pm #240964I just stumbled across an old photo of me in the TD. It was still primered at that point.

February 21, 2011 at 3:40 am #240966I had to work this weekend but I got the new injectors installed. That did not correct the bad run problem. I’m waiting for more help from the MegaSquirt forum. I hope one of those geniuses there will look at my setup and go: “Oh just turn the……” and all will be well.
I can dream can’t I?Russ,
That’s cool. It looks like I’ll be getting a contract to build a two axis (pitch and roll. no yaw) simulator that looks like a F-117 (12 feet long, one seat). It’s for a children’s museum. I wish I knew more about doing it right.
I’m finishing up another copy of the Lunar Roving Vehicle. I’ll post pix when done.
Where abouts you at? The US is a big place. I’m Los Angeles. No trees were injured in the making of this message, but some electrons were inconvenienced.
July 22, 2011 at 7:09 pm #240967Back in the world again. I did get the contract to build a 1/4 scale flight simulator of the F-117 stealth fighter.
The F-117 under construction with the poor neglected TD in the background.
That would be Lt. Uhura in front for the roll out.

Good to hear from you again, G. We got a new member who’s fooling with a Buick 215 conversion in one of these, I think you two should talk. Look around the thread called “Another Project Reported.”

It looks like a ’52 MG TD. But lets see…The windshield wiper motor is missing.
And the front axle is a little too far forward..Hum??Okay, it’s a real MD body. But the running gear is MG A. The motor is a Toyota 2.4 L.
Why?
I’ve tested my electrical and every thing works except for the brake lights . I’ll track that down.
Still haven’t bought the computer, I expected to have it by now but too much work and not enough $$.
The ’75 Comet I’ve been using for my daily driver just decided to have it’s Bendix fail. So I’m borrowing my son’s car.
Such fun.
I WANT MY MG!!!!!September 27, 2011 at 5:22 pm #240971This MGTD has the running gear from a MGB The front end is in the correct place. They front end bolts right right up to the TD A frames. The engine is a Datsun A-14 Once again bolts right to the orginal motor mounts. The British sold a lot of engineering to the Japanese. The visability is limited so why put a wind shield wiper motor on? A kit car? No, a car with MG parts and an ugly cousin for the engine.
October 10, 2011 at 11:36 pm #240972Okay..You obviously know this TD better than I. But I got some of it right.
It was a pretty one. Is there another reason to build one of these other than reliability?
As for my project; I’m still trying to get the computer to work.No trees were injured in the making of this message, but some electrons were inconvenienced.
October 11, 2011 at 11:50 pm #240973Court wizard I was looking at the pictures of the red TD their are wiper blades on the top of the glass just like a real TD. unless I’m missing something ?

September 23, 2012 at 10:00 pm #240974IT LIVES!!!!!!!:D
Although I’ve been working 60 hrs a week I still had time to rewire the duchess, get a new Chevy computer and get professional help.;)
I had three “experts” try to get the “Mega-Squirt” computer to run and all failed. ($800)
Then I called Michael Hannanat at custompcmtuning@gmail.com. Mike was cool he came out and looked at the set up and asked me, “Why not use the stock Chevy?”. I didn’t have an answer.
So I got a wiring harness and ECU and Flex fuel sensor from the junkyard. ($250)
Cut out all the harness I wasn’t using, hooked everything up. (a couple of weeks)
Called Mike back. he came out today and had a little talk with the ECU. And she came to life!!! ($400)
I drove it down the taxiway stopped at the fuel farm got some 110 LL (5 gal) and blasted back to the hanger. The difference between the Chevette’s 61 Hp and the S-10’s 120 Hp is very noticeable. On the way back a vibration started up in the rear end, I’ll look when it cools off a little tomorrow night.
My fixation with the Mega-Squirt cost me years and dollars. I could have had this thing running about three years ago if I had just stuck with the OEM computer.
If anyone else wants to modernize their power plant…try stock.
I’ll get some pix of the setup posted ASAIC.No trees were injured in the making of this message, but some electrons were inconvenienced.
September 24, 2012 at 9:09 am #240975Congrats, man! Look forward to hearing about your cruises with this thing.
As a guy toying with the idea of moving to a modern engine, I would like to hear more about what and how you modded your fuel tank and lines to deal with FI. And if you had/have any issues with idle and other low-speed running.
The Subaru-into-VW people seem to have every problem licked except that, and I’ve seen what look to me like pretty elaborate sensor wheels being built to get a low speed or I’m stopped signal to the ECU. Scary…
So, details of your triumph may be relevant to other FI and crankfire ignition systems.

Okay…fuel delivery; You need to figure out what pressure your injectors require. Once knowing that there are two ways to control pressure, one the injector rail has a pressure regulator on the end that controls how much fuel is sent back to the tank. Two, the pressure sent to the rail is controlled by a regulator on the pump (like mine).
If you have a regulator on the fuel rail this can also have a vacuum line attached which will adjust the pressure in accordance with the engine demand. these have numerous after market regulators and vacuum controls.
If your rail has no regulator, You must get a pump/regulator combo (many$$$) or like I found, a high pressure pump and a filter that has a built-in regulator.
I haven’t needed an in-tank-pump but I mounted my pump right next to the tank.
Next thing, your fuel lines from aNormal

carbureted engine most likely will not stand up to the pressures for FI. Where you can use steel lines where you are flexible, use high pressure hose and double your clamps. check with parts store, they have clamps for FI.
A lot of FI installation have an in-tank pump and a secondary high-pressure pump in line.
All these systems need a return line back to the tank. This is low pressure but large volume.Wheel sensors are doing it the hard way. “AutoMeter” company makes gauges for cars. they also make an adapter to run their digital speedo off a cable drive. This adapter creates the pulses you need for the ECU road speed (VSS) input. It fits up under the dash.
As far as my running I need to use up some of the 4 year old gas and get Mike back for a tune on good gas. But I haven’t been experiencing any bothersome low speed problems. The exhaust smells nasty though. The tank was half full so I filled it with AvGas.
I noticed on another thread about ethanol, My engine & ECU are ‘FlexFuel’ so I can run any % ethanol and the engine adapts automagically. My neighbor has a ethanol E-Pump and makes his own ethanol fuel.

September 24, 2012 at 10:00 pm #240977Thanks for all that, my brother. Until I can fathom all this, I will take better care of the engine I have.
December 1, 2012 at 11:39 pm #240978OKAAAY!
Update! The dutchess is a smoking hot babe! The new engine runs really strong. (120 HP) This thing is going to eat tires if I don’t watch myself. It will, (accidentally!) get scratch in gears 1-4 I don’t know about 5, by the time I reach 5 I’m already going too fast.
Okay bad news….The ass end is dragging, if I’ve just filled up and got two guys in her, she bottoms out on anything thicker than a cigarette paper. So I installed new coil springs and shocks in rear. No good. No change in ride. I didn’t want to go to the expense of air shocks. So I decided that helper airbags would be the ticket. They don’t make them for 79 Chevy Chevette. Who in their right mind would want helper air bags on a subcompact?
So I called several airbag companies to get bags for a 12″ X 3.75″ springs. All they wanted was year, make, and model please.
Then I called air lift brand. After a little work I got a tech who said sure, for that size spring you’d want our model # 61741. What??!! That easy?? Okay send me a set. Sorry you have to buy through a dealer…
So a few bucks later JC Whitney sent the package out.An interesting thing; The #61741 is for the Land Rover Defender 90!
So after dropping the rear axle the little red bags go inside the springs;
The only problem…the plastic boots (disks) won’t fit inside my springs. Back to the lathe!
Plumb them up… wait no holes in our spring hangers! So drill holes.
Finish plumbing. Ready to install.
once the axle is reinstalled, the instructions say that the max PSI for the bags is 35psi and that I should pump ’em up to that level and try ’em out. These bags are good for an additional 1000 Lbs of load…I put 25 psi in ’em.
Out on the road. 😛 A little stiff but the dips and potholes of doom that had me cringing every time I hit them…GONE!! Oh wait they’re still there I’m just buzzing over them.
What a difference! Clanks and bonks from the rear are gone! (The license plate still buzzes at 3200 rpm. Oh well.)I think I need to take a couple of pounds out but it started raining and I ain’t got a top. I know, I know; “Drive fast stay low.” 🙂
More to come…….

December 2, 2012 at 3:36 am #240979Does the spriing air bag kit include an on board compressor to tailor the ride on the go, or must you set it
before you go?
Nice job on the transplant. On board computers in an TD, go figure.
I’d really like to check this out. Do you have any plans to make Carlisle this year?Bill Ascheman

The compressor would have added another $100 or so. So I decided to try the system first and if all was well…then I could get one.
I was checking Carlisle out on the maps last night. I would love to go but it’s about as far away as you can get and still stay on the continent. I’m in Los Angeles. The time & $$ make it improbable. 🙁
What about a meet out this way?No trees were injured in the making of this message, but some electrons were inconvenienced.
December 2, 2012 at 6:21 pm #240981Get with some of the Speedster Owners Group out there. They cruise alla time and many are pretty Catholic about what goes in the group. “Cars and Coffee” a big thing, I hear.
Some also come this way for Carlisle.
December 2, 2012 at 11:44 pm #240982If you fly out, there will always be someone to get you to and from the show field.

December 3, 2012 at 6:50 am #240983I believe the “longest travelled” last year was a Speedster from Canada that arrived at Carlisle via the Florida Keys.
