Thats what I have – originally came from MG magic – drill at dimples and use a counter sinker bit and counter head machine screws.
September 29, 2014 at 4:56 am #261490Would whoever gets these please make a plaster of paris mold of both sides or whatever copy material you can work with and preserve it till some one who knows of a home foundry can get a quote. I would volunteer but freight across the border is prohibitive.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackSeptember 29, 2014 at 2:00 pm #261492I emailed MG Magic about the windshield cowl brackets used on the Chevey-based TDs and this was there reply.
The windshield post brackets are
not currently in stock.
Can you email a list of names
and numbers, and we can call them when they are back in stock.
They will not be available until
around spring of next year.Thanks,
MG Magic
So I guess if you want a set, email MG magic at: kitcar@earthling.net

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackOctober 3, 2014 at 8:35 pm #261493Tried to make a plaster two part mold of fiberfab cowl brackets. Not as easy as it sounds. Having failed at two attempts (the mold broke) I have resigned and passed the brackets on to a needy soul. The adaption of original brackets was easier than mold making however. A little grinding and bondo fill was all it needed. Moss Motors supplied the mounting hardware.
October 3, 2014 at 8:44 pm #261494That’s how we do it!
October 3, 2014 at 11:28 pm #261495hey thanks for trying
October 4, 2014 at 5:33 am #261496Nice work, those adapted brackets look great.

First, nice work. I can see, though, that in my case if I’m going to do this I will really have to do custom work, because the Fiberfab cowl is significantly different from the Duchess, where the cowl is squared off to almost 90 degrees where it meets the bottom corners of the windscreen frame. (You can see it to at least some extent in the photo in my original post.) Also, I think we’re mixing apples and oranges because what you originally posted were what I would call cowl brackets, whereas what you’ve mounted in the photo above are the actual windscreen stanchions.
-DaveOctober 4, 2014 at 10:29 am #261498I was confused at fist also about the terminology. I always thought they were called stanchions but the everyone referred to them as cowl brackets. Maybe because the replica is more an artificial stanchion. This was my cowl before the surgery.
October 4, 2014 at 12:36 pm #261499That looks familiar. Here is my version.
October 4, 2014 at 4:43 pm #261500Steve,
Thanks for the photos. I see you and Doug have done the same thing in rounding off the cowl and removing the “horns” under the corners of the windshields. I guess there’s no other way to be able to mount the TD-style fold-down windshield. It really looks sharp, though.
-DaveOctober 4, 2014 at 6:52 pm #261501Those look really nice! Is there any way to have a folding windshield seal against wind/rain?
October 4, 2014 at 7:25 pm #261502This is it. (The gasket, not the dog.)
October 16, 2014 at 3:01 pm #261503Prototype Research & Development Ltd., a Canadian firm that still manufacturers MG TD kits, appears to have windshield cowl brackets for sale. Not cheap, the parts/price list says $410 per pair (scroll down to Windshield Group on last page).

PMOSSBERG2014-10-17 22:38:38October 18, 2014 at 5:50 pm #261505With a pair of brackets from Prototype Research going for $410, that’s a steal.
October 18, 2014 at 8:28 pm #261506Dave,
I think the question is who is stealing from whom?BillBad Bill
October 18, 2014 at 8:34 pm #261507Bill,
It’s all a matter of perspective, isn’t it?

October 18, 2014 at 8:40 pm #261508Dave,It is all about perspective, as my grandfather used to tell me, “If you’re getting run out of town, get out in front of the crowd, and make it look like a parade.” No wonder that man lived 99 years.

October 18, 2014 at 9:55 pm #261509That windshield kit looks viable. But remember, your cowl is probably not the same width as a TD.
October 27, 2014 at 5:30 pm #261510Well even though I’ve had a busy weekend (rearranging the house) and a busy day today at work, supper’s over now its back to working the cowl brackets I’m trying. 1/8-inch thick polished stainless steel. Got the two pieces cut into two sheets and now I’ll try CAREFULLY grinding one down to shape. I’ll post photos when I’m finished.

Cowl Brackets Before Cutting
Cowl Bracket After Cutting
Cowl Bracket Rear Side After Cutting
Cowl Bracket Before Cleanup
Next steps are cleanup, bend to fit, drill and polish. Not too bad for my first attempt I think.
