David got tired of empty promises of advancement from Giant, the supermarket he had worked at since high School. He plopped down the money at a tech school and obtained a CDL. The school got him accepted at TMC, a flatbed hauler based in DesMoine. He was in Iowa for a few weeks and then drove with a trainer for a few weeks more. He has arrived home last weekend with his own truck. He arrived here again this weekend to get his taxes done then he’ll leave midday today for points unknown. He seems to really like this, as he’s getting paid to see the country.

"Drive Happy"February 15, 2015 at 7:39 am #263195Bill, does David plan to run it in the Autocross @ Carlisle? 😀
February 15, 2015 at 7:58 am #263196No offense ,Roy, but he’d still probably give you a run for your money.
Seriously, I don’t know what his plans are for Carlisle. He also built that Sharpie for the Hillclimbs and I don’t know if he can get loads scheduled to to that.Bill Ascheman

"Drive Happy"February 15, 2015 at 12:15 pm #263197Your son is good people, Bill. He is smart, creative and seems to like hard work. I hope he enjoys his trucking time, whether he makes a career of it or not. Seems like very few things are career-able anymore, but I’m not sure my complaints about that fact have prompted any reform yet.

Best of luck down the road!

February 16, 2015 at 11:08 am #263199Is that a replica of a TD hauler from back in the day?
You have to squint really hard to see the resemblance.February 16, 2015 at 1:27 pm #263200BD it sure looks like it. Can’t you tell by the sweeping fenders? Bill good on your son and I hope he enjoys every minute of driving the big rig. Will we see him on “Ice Road Truckers”?

February 17, 2015 at 6:50 pm #263205He won’t be far from where I lived when I was a kid in Garland. Unfortunately, Google Earth shows all the cotton fields replaced by housing. Progress?
