My BCW TDr has Chevette brakes, disk front/drum rear. I’m thinking of converting the rear drums to disks, and was wondering how difficult this is and if there are any cars with rear disks that could be converted. Any conversion will have to use a 4 x 100mm lug bolt pattern.
January 15, 2015 at 8:03 pm #262632Are the rear drums giving a problem?
January 16, 2015 at 6:55 am #262633Good question, Ed. As light as these cars are the drum brakes out back are quite adequate. While they might look cool the work and expense involved would exceed any additional braking benefit.

"Drive Happy"January 16, 2015 at 11:15 am #262634The brakes have always had a long pedal throw that goes about half way down before engaging. From that point on, the brakes work fine. I’ve worked the problem, talked to lots of folks, but no luck. A friend mentioned going disks all around, and as I just put Dayton wire knock offs on, am thinking about it.
January 16, 2015 at 11:50 am #262635Widest selection of aftermarket disc brakes that I’m aware of is Wilwood:

Slowly coming back from the ashes...January 16, 2015 at 11:53 am #262636I can’t help but think that the rod that goes between your pedal and your master cylinder needs adjusting.
…..worked for me running discs on front drums in rear.January 16, 2015 at 12:18 pm #262637I was thinking about having the correct master cylinder, but as Royal suggested it could be as simple as the pushrod.

January 16, 2015 at 9:29 pm #262639Hardest lesson, which I’ve still not quite managed to learn: solve the problem you have, not the one you want to have.
January 17, 2015 at 5:31 pm #262640Ed, that’s downright philosophical.

February 12, 2015 at 9:27 pm #262643I read recently that Fiero disc and brake will fit Chevette. Can that be confirmed?
