Need help identifying the proper hook-up points on several dashboard components:
The light switch says “Bow” “Anchor” “Battery” and “Lites”. How do those relate to the numbers on the VW harness, i.e. “30” “58” “58a” etc?The Ignition switch says “Bat” “Ign” and “Sol”. How do those relate to the numbers?
I have an alternator and no voltage regulator. I think I’ve wired it right, but any suggestions are welcome.
All of the “idiot lights” have two poles. I assume the center pole is for the wire from that component, e.g. the alternator, brake switch, etc. and the outer poles are for a common ground. Correct thinking? Reversed? Incorrect?
The speedometer cable terminates in an electronic fitting with two wires. Do those go directly to the speedometer inputs? Is there a polarity or are they like the brake switch and horn?
Any other tips or suggestions? Remember, I’m a neophyte so don’t think you have to be gentle or kind. Call me an idiot if that’s what it takes — I want to do the job right and not burn up the new harness (or the car for that matter).
Thanks in advance.

Pull out the schematics from the Download Manuals section over there on the left. At the bottom of the landing page, you’ll see download for Clssic Roadsters Ltd schematics. These are for a VW powered Duchess. But they are very detailed and should help you through your wiring project. This VW Type 1 schematic will help also, especially with your “30, 58 58a” type questions.I think you are correct re the idiot lights. And sorry. I have a mechanical speedometer. Not sure about wiring the electronic speedo.PMOSSBERG2013-08-09 15:42:50
