Is this what old people do?  I did a frame off restoration.  I was tempted to put it under “Manufacturer Comparison”.  Looks better from 18″ or more.

    Very cool, Roy.

The dash is much more TC-ish but the tank and bumpers are TD all the way. Neet car.

Ed, you are the one that I knew would notice the dash.  I bought the TD on ebay for almost $25 incl shipping.  Then bought a rear tire for another $8. Stripped the paint from the whole thing. Spent $12 on paint.  There was no steering wheel, made one out of copper wire.  For the dash, I found only one dashboard on line, with a straight on shot, which was a right hand drive.  Experimented with the zoom until it was the right size.  Printed it out, cut and pasted just like grade school. Sprayed interior black.  Painted hubcaps bumpers, windshield frame.  Painted seats.  2 coats primer.  3 coats red. 3 coats clear coat over everything including dash.  The time it took me to disassemble and paint and put back together- priceless.

This is the one that I started with:
The next one will be better.  – Next winter.

Roy, I had no idea you made that dash yourself! Welcome to the I-made-my-dashboard-myself club.

It’s  Hubley model 485.  (They also made a shorter model) Mine is called 1/14 scale and is 9 inches long.

Every Carlisle for the last 5 years I have looked for a model of the TD and have never seen one. Lots of sellers there w/ the TC’s and the like, but never TD’s. Hope to find one this year.

Dale, there are a number of them for sale on ebay.

For the Hubley 485, type “Hubley MG” in the search block.  Leave off the TD in the search, and you will get a lot more choices since many of the sellers don’t really know what car the model is of.

OK Roy – bid on one – don’t bid against me – auction over in like 8-9 hours. We will see

Roy I have one of those that I would guess I got about 60 years ago. Mine also is missing a back tire as well as one head light. I can tell you for sure that it has more miles on it than the one I drive. I can rember spending hours and hours with that thing.

Charlie, why not buy another tire, and a front grill (which of course includes the headlights)(both are available on ebay) and restore yours.  Relive your childhood, get on your hands and knees and push it around going “vroom   vroom!”.  I did.  Felt great. When you are all vroomed out, give it to your grand kids.

Put in my highest price and let it ride – was outbid by a couple of bucks.

Dale, there is really never any way to know how much you were outbid by.  The guy who won, could have outbid you by hundreds of dollars but because of the way that ebay handles bids, the winning bid amount is whatever the minimum bid increment is,  greater than the second highest bidder.

The important thing is to bid ‘your’ highest price and let it run.  Don’t try and second guess after the auction is over.
You probably bid on the pretty red one (ebay item # 300892063142) that went for $34.65 + shipping.  Eh?

Roy is right. But I have had good luck bidding late on Ebay.

On a related note, saw this and thought someone might be interested.  New, unassembled kit from England.

The DOEPKE MG – TD is the true holy grail. About 16 inches long; 1/16th.

I have a “decent” but not overly impressive collection of VW toys — I can’t afford to add another brand/model to the equation… 🙂

Roy I may have to do that. Its been sitting on a shelf in my den for years. I had never even thought about being able to get parts for it.

No. Beat out towards the end. Went for close to $50 USD, plus about $13 for shipping.

I assume you know that Finecast models can still be bought new straight from the factory??
