    @todd

    Is there a kit to be able to put a real tire in place of the empty fiberglass shell spare tire on fiberfabs?

     Todd, MG Magic lists a spare tire mounting bracket for about $60.00. It says that you must use one designed for a Chev/Ford kit to cover the hole on the VW kits.They list one for the VW for about $30.00 but I’m thinking it is for the cars that did not have the fake spare tire which may have had a smaller hole in the engine cover.

     I don’t know how your fake spare is attached . You may be able to remove it and make your own bracket from flat iron.

    Todd;

    Just saw your post.

    Do you have a vw based or other?,chevy/ford?

    If you want the look of a real tire on the back,I just put a doughnut spare on mine,no rim,just bolted the tire to the cover and bolted the hub-cap to the tire.,and put the real spare under the hood.

    It’s a VW.  Is your’s a VW.  You just bolted a tire where the fiberglass cover is after taking the fiberglass off?

    Yes I have a FF vw based.My engine cover to wich is supposed to reasemble the gas tank,(on the real 1’s)has a large hole in the center,To wich a fiberglass hat is supposed to fit in,to wich the spare bolts to.Well these items were missing when I bought the car.Look in my album and you will see my first design.

    I have since,now taken just the doughnut spare(no rim)and bolted that to the fiberglass rear cover,The hollow of the tire gives me what I need to clear what protrudes through the opening (alt/air cleaner)but still looks like a real tire without the added weight.

    I envy you I searched for weeks looking for what you have,because I didn’t want all the extra weight on the engine cover.

    My 2 cents is;if you want to carry a real spare find room under the front hood,even if you have to use a doughnut type for room,or a can of fix a flat.
