Help please. I have wiring issues, I have an oil temp Guage aND an oil pressure switch. Do I hook up oil pressure light with my oil pressure switch aND if so where is my oil temp? Any information would help. Thanks in advance.
Bob, some detailed pictures would be a big help. Usually, the oil pressure light is connected to a sender screwed into the engine case and located by the distributor base.
An oil temperature sender may be located in the same place, but could also be located in a couple other places like the bottom of the sump or the oil pressure relief (if you have one fitted). What is your engine code #? That may help.
Royal, on my dash I have an oil temp Guage and I have an oil pressure light. I traced the wires back. Do I hook up the wire to the oil pressure switch for the warning light? I will get the engine number for you tomorrow. The problem I’m having is I can’t find the oil temp. Switch.
The oil pressure switch is almost always located where I said by the base of the distributor. Maybe your switch quit, the prior owner removed it and that’s why you have a wire that’s not hooked up to anything. ???
Some oil temp switches (like mine) are designed to be installed in place of one of the oil pressure relief port plugs. Some are designed to go in the center of the oil strainer base. I like where mine is because I believe it gives a more accurate temperature reading as its not siting in a pool of hot oil in the bottom of the case half. The pressure switches come with one or two connections; one for the gauge and the other for the light. They even have an adapter that fits the case where you can add the oil pressure and oil temp switches. It gets to crowded for my liking that way so I just use the singe connection pressure sensor.
