My son recently purchased a FiberFap MGTD. One concern that we have is that the front tires extend outside the front fenders and they rub on the fenders when he drives on rough roads. The tires that he has are 165 SR15 which I understand are the tires for the VW bug that is his platform. What is the solution the problems?
August 25, 2013 at 7:10 am #257482Is he running aftermarket wheels? They often have a different offset than the factory wheels. You can get a narrower front torsion beam to move the wheels in, closer to the floor pan…Early FF TDr on 69 VW pan
Slowly coming back from the ashes...August 25, 2013 at 10:11 am #257483If you have stock VW wheels, there should be enough clearance.
In addition to Kent’s questions, has the front suspension been lowered?
When questions like this come up, we all tend to focus on the wheels,
tires and suspensions. We forget most of these cars were built by
amateur mechanics (like me!!) in their back yards. There are a lot of
places things could have gone wrong.Likely no way to tell this one without seeing other cars, but are the fenders mounted correctly? Indeed, is the entire body assembled correctly?
Don’t laugh.
I did a pretty good job on my car, at 24, with only hand tools and no significant prior experience beyond tune ups and oil changes.
But I also know the body is just a hair off, one side being just slightly ahead of the other. You would never be able to tell from looking at it. I only realized it when the hood needed to be shaved at a slight angle where it meets the grill, and one headlight bracket sits a tad lower than the other.
It’s possible your car has similar afflictions, causing the fenders to sit too low.

August 25, 2013 at 6:03 pm #257484I had a rubbing problem also up front . Front fender brace is adjustable so I moved the fender brace up a inch and it took care of it.There was also rubbing in rear. The brake line was rubbing against the tire . Both easy fixes
