My son just bought a FiberFab MGTD. The front tires extend a bit outside of the fenders and when he goes over bumps in the road his tires rub on the fenders. His tires are 165 SR15 which I think are the right tires. What could be wrong?

Is body assembled correctly? Fenders too low?

September 2, 2013 at 6:16 pm #257550Which Fiberfab? Ford, Chevy or VW? Most wheels have much different offset now than were used back in the 70’s when these cars were designed.

Disc brake kit that widened the track?October 5, 2013 at 4:04 pm #257552Hey, I too have trouble but just the left fender rubs. It is closer to the tire on flat ground. I did not build it so I don’t what to look at first. But if the right is ok why is the left not. I replaced the shocks with standard VW/1970 shocks and no help there. What’s next for me to try? all stock no disk and no adapters.Shakey572013-10-05 20:33:53
October 6, 2013 at 12:10 pm #257553Hey when the kits come are the fender holes predrilled? could it be I just need to re bolt my fender higher? has this been done before?
October 6, 2013 at 12:28 pm #257554Originally the fender holes are marked…not drilled.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackOctober 6, 2013 at 7:26 pm #257555Thanks Allen. I spent all day trying different thing. Headlight mount move, spacers between VW pan and kit floor I even tried to move the body over on the pan. Nothing works. I need to get longer shocks or cut the tubes to get the tire under the fender. What a pain. I thought these kits were bolt on then hold on. What have I got into.

October 7, 2013 at 2:22 pm #257560Adding to Paul’s question are the fenders too low? (also thinking out loud). In my fiberfab manual, in the headlight bracket installation, the manuals says to make sure the fenders are at the same height by supporting the fenders with 2x4s. Then you attach the bracket to the fender. Might that be the problem?

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackOctober 7, 2013 at 4:58 pm #257561I to had a fender rub . The brace on a London Roadster attaches to the top of the shock . The has a oval bolt hole so the brace can be pushed up or down there forth raising or lowering the fender. All I did was use a floor jack with a 8 in. block of wood raised to desired height and tightened nut.
October 9, 2013 at 1:50 pm #257562Ok…..Here is what I’ve done so I can drive my car WITHOUT the tire rubbing the fender. For now…I have re-installed the coil-over shock that was on there. BUT…. I took two of the big washers that holt the bushing on the top of the shock and put them on first face to face. then added two flat washers, now the bushing stubbed it up thru the bracket, put on the top bushing, then the washer, let the car down and put the nut on. Test drove and NO RUBBING!! Got out during the drive and looked at the car, plenty of clearance between tire and fender and car looks level. I hope this helps all who have this problem. Its inexpensive and quick. I’m sure this is not the proper way but I want to drive this thing. The weather is GREAT in SC right now.Shakey572013-10-09 13:53:51
