Just my two cents. My kit from Classic Roadsters LTD came with the bracket mounted on the underside of the bonnet. For those who dont have one Im thinking that one of those shelf support brackets might make a good substitute. They can be found at most hardware stores and cut to size. What do you think?

Instead of the shelf support bracket I stuck with the washer, lock-washer and nut system. I don’t use a strap for my hood. I use the metal rod as the Fiberfab option suggests. Might add a small piece of strap in case the wind tries to blow it open off the rod.

    One more option —

The PO of my BCW fiberglassed a bracket to the hood and added a gas spring to hold the hood open  …
    works pretty well

doesn’t that  put a lot pressure on the hinges  when closing?

…the  PO reinforced the attachment point so it does not stress the hood  — and the gas spring has “just the right amount of spring” to keep the hood open yet allow it to be closed easily.  And once the gas spring is fully retracted, it places the stress perpendicular to the hinges and latches.

And in my case with the BCW, there is a typical hood latch mechanism (like on a modern car’s hood) that holds the hood closed when the hood is slammed shut. As such,  I place the palm of my hand over the point on the hood above the bracket  when I’m pushing the hood closed so I can feel how the closing motion is affecting the hood– just in case………

The gas support struts are available in a wide range of “force”. You can pretty much tailor one to your needs.
