…the PO reinforced the attachment point so it does not stress the hood — and the gas spring has “just the right amount of spring” to keep the hood open yet allow it to be closed easily. And once the gas spring is fully retracted, it places the stress perpendicular to the hinges and latches.
And in my case with the BCW, there is a typical hood latch mechanism (like on a modern car’s hood) that holds the hood closed when the hood is slammed shut. As such, I place the palm of my hand over the point on the hood above the bracket when I’m pushing the hood closed so I can feel how the closing motion is affecting the hood– just in case………
