October 14, 2015 at 10:18 pm #265809Vicenc, you just have to find a car dealer that’s going out of business. In addition to needing the ceiling height, you need a pretty long (deep) garage.
I’m afraid that a “proper” lift will still be on my bucket list when I die.
I’ve spent enough time under cars on a lift to agree that this rig would put it into the in-between height would be too high for a crawler and too low to walk under and do good work. (But if someone gave me one, I’d sure use it.)
October 15, 2015 at 2:08 am #265810Roy, my garage is so small that it wouldn’t accommodate anything resembling a lift, not even this thing. I can barely fit the car and the motorcycle in and when I do I have no room for anything else.

October 15, 2015 at 8:28 am #265811The guy who has rebuilt more than 30 Speedsters has this in his one-bay “Speedster Birthing Center” and swears by its safety and utility–even though it only lifts about 2 feet. Two feet (27 inches with lifting blocks) seems to me the perfect height to be uncomfortable–slightly too low to sit under, too high to lie under. But it’s undoubtedly way better that what I have now, which is a floor jack and standard jack stands that put the chassis about 14 inches off the floor. That’s not enough for comfort. This one raises to 4 feet but all the hydraulics are right about where you’ll want to be sitting. It also needs nearly 5 inches of ground clearance, so getting Bridget situated over top might need to be a careful job.I would really like to get something like this. But on my budget it’s a pipe dream, and at 12 feet it’s three feet too tall for my garage. I found a 9-foot tall model but it would still require some ceiling re-working….Then there is this portable two-post lift. $2k+ and some rigomorole. But…hey. A boy can dream.October 15, 2015 at 9:58 am #265812I agree, you need A LOT of room for the lift even BEFORE you add the car.
Plus, it seems to be the IMPERFECT height for working under your car.
Think I’ll save my money…
