    @eddy

    If you have the right shocks they should work, many of the so called right shocks are to long though!

    Soooo, If my beam is lowered to  stock ride hight, sans a full VW body, do I use stock front shocks or the Lowered VW shocks I see in catalogues????????? Dennis p

    There’s a bit of mixed opinion and feedback on that issue.  Many are using stock length shocks. I’ve decided and I’m going to 2″ shorter ones on mine, which was lowered the same way yours was…
    I described my thinking earlier in this thread, and I’m going with the shorter shocks to provide more travel before bottoming out.  Remember that the bottom shock mount has been essentially moved up as a result of rotating that lower beam center to lower the car…
    It’s not on the road yet, so I can’t give real-world feedback.  Call it an experiment if you like, but my shorter shocks are now sitting here, waiting to be installed.

    Put weight temporarily on the front end (such as standing on the bumper) and see how far down the front will drop before it comes to a complete stop when the shocks bottom out.  If you have stock shocks, I’m guessing that will be less than 2″ … and closer to 1″.
    EDIT:  On second thought — make sure your front bumper mounts will support your weight before trying that — I know mine originally wouldn’t have.  That’s another of my projects – reworking VW bug rear bumper mounts to become new TDr front bumper mounts.

    You should select your shock absorber so that the shock travel length covers the suspension travel. Monroe has a table of shock lengths.

    The way to use this is to figure out how each end mounts and then look through table that has those ends.

    Checked the beam control arms and the are parallel to the floor.  Will check shock travel by taping a small block of styrofoam to the lower half of the shock, inch and half below skirt of upper half, if it gets knocked off, it travels.  I weigh 150 lbs and I think even that is too much to stand on the bumper.  May try a 2×4 on the brackets and stand on that.  This is like thinking out loud.
