    WE have had 2 Harbor Freight stores move into my county 1 in the north and 1 in the south . Both of them I went to . I purchased a car buffer at the one store .It adjusts from 200 rpm to 3300 rpm . I have been told that the 7000 rpm ones could burn the paint .What about the 33000 one I have tried it and there doesn’t seem to be a problem .

    Hi Greg,

    For polishing… 1,100 to 1,300 RPM
    For cutting…2,000 to 2,500
    For a beginner (which I am) a dual action buffer (aka random orbital) is safer than an orbital. The latter just spins. The former spins, and moves the entire head, resulting in a more random action on paint surface.
    Any orbital buffer can burn the paint, regardless of the operating speed. Hence the most important tip, critical on an orbital, but also important on a random… Keep it moving!
