May 24, 2011 at 7:34 pm #244869What kind of chassis is it?
May 25, 2011 at 9:27 am #244870hey, vw bug its said to be a 1974 chassis
May 25, 2011 at 9:50 am #244871Since it’s said to be a 74 (IRS) chassis you’ll need a dual circuit master cylinder. You should see two electrical plugs, two blue colored brake resevoir hoses and three metal brake tubes where the master cylinder would be if it were there. All the brake parts can be purchased at Mid America Motorworks, CIP1, Bughaus and a few others. I’d stay away from JC Whitney except for manuals. And if you have a VW club in your local area, check with them. The club would be fun and they know all the local salvage places and parts houses. Hope this helps.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackMay 25, 2011 at 9:55 am #244872i had the same problem with rusted pedal assembly except i had the plunger rod . you have two issues (atleast) you have to make a new rod.maybe a forum member will have an extra, or relocate the master cylinder at the pedals with a fabricated mount and a stock plunger.
.(appletreeauto.com)(part #5559)this requires new brake lines.
your next issue is acess to the pedal assembly. look in the forum under (floor pan rust) .. not a simple job but doable . you gotta move carpet and put your body under the dash. i can go into more detail if all this applies to you.May 25, 2011 at 10:55 am #244873Most of the VW crowd on thesamba.com won’t use Mid-America for good OEM VW stuff. I had an experience with them that made me nix them from my VW parts vendor list. They aren’t well liked by the VW crowd.
TRY TO BUY GERMAN MADE REPLACEMENT PARTS…it’s worth the extra $$.
May 25, 2011 at 6:40 pm #244874Hi Daniel…
Since your master cylinder answers are starting to appear here, I deleted the two other posts.
Good luck with your project!
