One of the Magnificent Seven that attended the Air & Auto Show this year had a high beam indicator that was an indicator dot on the outside of the headlamp bucket.  I can’t remember who it was but wonder: was it like that from the factory or did you do it?  Where/how?  I thought it was pretty cool and am looking to re-purpose one of my dash indicator lights for low oil pressure.  Moving the high beam indicator would do the trick.

Royal: Indicator light is easy to install in headlight bucket. A hole is drilled for Led bulb or other type light and wired to high beam . When high beam is on light lights up. Quick and easy.

Yep. Just put a rubber gasket under the indicator light washer.

Consider, though: Will you actually be able to see that thing when you need to? Might be just as easy, or easier to drill the hole in your dash between your tach and speedo and put it there.

    Hi Roy,

That was my Duchess. It was the factory’s idea.

But like George said, it’s easy peasy. Drill a hole, pop the indicator in. One lead to the high beam power line, and one lead to ground.

To Ed’s consideration, yes, it is easy to see.

And, here you go… for only $3.50

You don’t really need a rubber gasket. Just a thin band of silicone sealant. Most of it will squeeze out when you press the fixture into the headlamp bucket.

I was at the Moultrie GA Swap Meet last weekend and there was a 55 VW Bug that had the arrow style turn signal in the side view mirrors on the door hinge. The owner led me to the vendor at the swap meet and he had all sorts of mirrors on display. In the middle of the displays was a Ford T bucket chrome headlight bucket with a small led in the very back of the bullet. I’d say the one Paul has is much easier to see than the one in the T bucket. The T/S in the side view mirror is an idea as well. But first…I have to have my TD assembled and on the road. Then those options can come!

Paul. What color is the light on you headlight buckets? Are the HB indicator lights in the assembly manual?

    It’s blue.

And yes, it is on page 48 of the Duchess VW assembly manual.
(third page of part 3 – Dash and Electrical in our download manuals section)

But you don’t need the manual for this Allen. Drill a hole, insert the indicator, one wire to high beam power wire, one to ground. In fact, that’s all the manual says, it just uses more words!
