    @mrlmd

    Sadly, I may have to part with my TD, registered as a 1987 ’53 MGTD Roadster.
    I have a ridiculous amount of money invested in this car, having professionally totally rebuilt the 1600DP engine, from the case on the outside to replacing almost ALL of the innards – crank, main bearings, rods, pistons, cylinder sets, valves, lifters, doghouse oil cooler, fuel pump, coil, belts, gaskets, etc. Basically it is a new engine and runs incredibly well. I got a PICT 34 carb which I thoroughly cleaned and that’s what’s on the engine now, replacing the PICT 30 that came on it when I got the car.
    I also had both the front and rear brakes redone with new shoes and cylinders and installed 4 new tires.
    I had a new top made, matching perfectly the side curtains and tonnau.
    I put a new radio with CD and USB plug into the existing hole in the dash. It’s not fancy but it is functional, if you can hear the music over the wind noise. I only turned it on in the driveway to see if it worked.
    Two days ago I replaced the wiper blades (bought an 18″ blade in Walmart, removed the rubber blade from the wiper arm, cut it down and inserted 2 lengths into the TD’s wiper arms –much, much cheaper than buying two that fit the TD).
    I also had purchased a VW tow bar that might go with the car if the price is right.
    There are probably a few other things added, but right now I forgot.
    I need to buy a new battery for it, then it’s all set to go.
    The only ? problem is that because of where I live, right on the Gulf Coast in Florida, with all the salty. humid air, there are some rust spots popping up all over the chrome – bumpers, lights, everywhere, and the paint has that great old patina which never really shines and sparkles when you wax it, but that just adds to it’s authenticity and in my mind is not a deterrent or distraction.
    I will be sad to see it go, but I may have to move on as circumstances dictate.
    I would like to recoup at least $6000 of what I had spent on this (I did spend considerably more, hate to say it, even though at the time it was worth it), but we shall see.
    In the meantime, just have to keep driving on.
