I just came inside from shoveling snow yet again this winter. There are currently 30+ mph winds, gusts to 50 mph, drifitng snow and temperatures that dropped from near 70 yesterday to the low teens tonight with wind chills below zero!!! Guess I’m not working on the MG in the driveway this week! I’ve had it with this weather. I wish spring would hurry up and arrive

The weather here is absolutely perfect this week; mid 70’s, clear and sunny. The only thing is that in the central valley of California, we strart fretting about the coming heat as soon as it stops raining. Within six weeks it will be hitting the upper 80’s. By June we’ll be in the 90’s and by July we’ll settle into day after day of 100 plus. I hate snow with a passion, but in general I’ll take a little cold (say 40 degrees) over a little hot (100) any day. Working outdoors, you can stay warm a lot easier than you can cool off.
I’ve been working on Merlin quite a lot…until the clutch self destructed on my ’65 Ford this afternoon. I can’t take time to fix that now so it’s going to suck up a lot of cash. By the time I get the other problems fixed that it makes sense to fix when the trans is pulled it’ll be over a grand I’m sure. There goes Merlins wiring and instrument budget for this month.

March 11, 2005 at 12:29 am #236476My phone booth (remember them?) sized (10’x16′) attached garage is well heated with a ventless natural gas heater. Problem is, if I’m in there, the car has to be outside and if the MG is in there, I have to be outside!!!
I’m working on finally having my own “real” garage and may even install a nice 2 post lift. I’ll be in heaven!!!
I’ve been using the Auto Craft Shop on Fort Monmouth (I work there). Due to budget cuts, it is closing on 01 April along with several other Morale, Welfare and Recreation facilities on post. It had 16 bays (5 w/lifts), a machine shop, welding shop, parts cleaner (steam), a steam jenny, a huge tool room, work benches, tire balancer, tire machine, presses, etc. Several of us are investigating leasing it and operating it as a contractors.
