After thinking about it and researching it appears the best way to remove my engine is to remove the rear bumper and all connecting stuff to the engine. Buy a motorcycle jack ( about 50 dollars used.) jack it up unbolt and remove. After it is removed car would be higher so with this type of jack line up would be easier.What say you

However, lacking a motorcycle jack, I use a 2’x2′ piece of 3/4″ plywood balanced on top of a floor jack. A second person, to balance, is a big plus.Greg: I have a hydraulic platform cart that I use to remove my vw engine from my TD replica. It is convient and as I usually work alone it is good to line everything up going back in. Also is nice to lift stuff to the back of my pickup. I have also taken vw engine from a bus with a floor jack. Not as clean as the hydraulic platform. It also can be used as a portable work bench.
If you have someone to help balance it (or you’re very careful) you can remove one with a regular floor jack and no additional pads or platforms as Roy describes. Put the round center pad of the jack on the oil drain plate and the edges of the drain plate will keep it the engine from sliding around on the jack…
A motorcycle jack would be the “cat’s meow” but note that if you have the back of car up on jackstands, that you will have to tilt the top of the engine slightly forward to get everything to line back up when you reinstall the engine…Early FF TDr on 69 VW pan
