Hi!
Have any of you used lights like these? http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1962-1967-VW-Beetle-LED-Tail-Light-Retro-fit-Kit-1963-1964-1965-1966-one-pair-/121361254073?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c41b1c6b9&vxp=mtr
The tail lights in my fiberfab replica are unprotected from the rear wheel splash and it looks difficult to make something durable to repair this. These lights are almost flush and would be much simpler to make a cover for!
What do you think?

These LED’s are cool…there’s a thread on them somewhere in here…unfortunately , I’m not running that style lamp.Bill Ascheman

"Drive Happy"June 29, 2014 at 11:23 am #260661Mine has two bulb sockets exposed in the inside fender. ( separate bulb of the signal light and the combination tail/stop light. The above unit doesn’t have the separate signal light so requires a “converter” to make it work.
June 29, 2014 at 11:41 am #260662Maybe some of these bulbs http://www.ebay.ca/itm/380797165478?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Along with these pigtails http://www.ebay.ca/itm/151269242509?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
And make my own lights?
July 2, 2014 at 3:04 pm #260663IMHO:
A basic problem on my FF was that both front and rear lights wiring ran loose and unprotected on the underside of the fenders to the connection point with the lights. I decided that this was a potential problem because the connections could vibrate loose or in the event of a tire tread loss the wiring might be ripped off, compounding your problems.
I used some semi-rigid plastic tubing to arc the wires up under the fender and away from the tires (tyres?) as much as possible. It’s probably also good to allow a small slack loop so you can lift up the light assemblies for service.
Just my 2 cents.July 2, 2014 at 8:31 pm #260664What you did sounds a lot like how BCW designed their wire path, though they molded them into the ‘glass.
Seems like a good idea no matter how you do it.August 8, 2014 at 5:48 pm #260665Has antone actually bought and tried this LED conversion kit for the tail lights, if so did they work well?
