A moment of silence please for one of, if not the, most innovative musicians and inventors ever.
The mighty Les Paul died this morning.
Thanks for the music, inspirations and inventions Les. RIP!
I know there are some musically minded folks on the list. I’m a guitarist/singer. PinkMg is a drummer. There are others.
So I hope you don’t mind my stealing some of our car talk to remember a truly great man.
Les autographed one of my guitars a couple years ago. Signed it: “To Paul, humbly, Les Paul”
“Humbly”, from of the few who could justifiably brag. Gotta love that.

Wow, really sorry to hear that. I’m a music nut and also a struggling guitarist (Guitar, Piano), and a bit of a collector. In my collection is this 1977 Les Paul Custom Natural beauty! Next to my TD Replical, it’s my pride and joy!
Great musician and innovator. The Solid Body Guitar, Multi-Track recording to name a few. Hell of a player too!

Must have been one hell-u-va Christmas tree to hang a Les Paul and a chair on it! Was your LP a Christmas gift?
My LP was a 50th birthday gift!
I have an Epiphone DOT (which I got signed by Les Paul) and one of the original Blue-Silverburst Gibson Les Paul Robots (basically a Custom, with the auto tuning electronics). And four other various acoustic/acoustic-electrics.

Naw, it was a gift that I bought for myself and my son about 15 years ago. It is very heavy but the sound is awesome. I play it through an original 1976 Fender Princeton Reverb amp. The sound is vintage and awesome. I have thought about selling it a few times because it doesn’t get much use anymore, but just can’t get myself to do it. Now that Les is gone, I just think I’ll hold on to it for a while.
NOTHING else sounds like a “Les Paul” Guitar!

August 13, 2009 at 10:06 pm #239472Most (but not all) LPs are chambered now. It’s a pretty significant routing of the body before the cap is glued on. A chambered LP weighs about 8 pounds.
Always a hearty debate raging on the Gibson forums about whether chambering improves or harms the sound.
I had tried all sorts of Tele’s and Strats.
Just not for me. The LP is and always will be “right”.Thanks Les!
