Figures, the day before my London Roadster arrives, my VW “Guru” leaves the countyr for 2 weeks.

    Simple question I am sure:

What is the lever for, that is next to the base of the shifter, on the right? Is that the choke? If it is, mine is disconnected (and it looks like it may have an electric choke. Sound right?).

That controls an air flapper that adjusts the amount of heat into the passenger compartment….if you have heater boxes that are hooked up.

Two levers…one each side of the tunnel. One turns heat on and off and the other selects heat or defrost on a beetle. You only need the one on the right side. That controls the heat. I believe its up for full on and down for full off. And you can set it anywhere inbetween. If your heater boxes are good you’ll cook. At least it worked for me in my beetles and karmann ghia. newkitman2012-09-08 15:38:25

    Thanks!

I have a switch on the dash that turns the fan on, and only one lever on the right, which I am guessing controls the amount of heat. Will be checking it and confirming when the rain stops.

The lever turns the heat on or off, for the 2 heater tube’s under the seat.  The LR only has one lever. The defrost for the windsheild is not connected to the heat lever and duct work, only the fan.
