good evening, I’m looking for a convertible top for my boss’s car.
if anyone has a complete, or, even just the top without the frame, he would be interested.
his car has no top, or hardware at all, and, is a vw based fiberfab kit.
any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
February 6, 2015 at 6:38 pm #263019Mg Magic’s top would probably fit. The frame is typically (on a replica) just aluminum tubing with marine hardware for fittings.
February 6, 2015 at 7:14 pm #263020Just a reminder…if he doesn’t have an assembly manual there is one in the download manuals tab on the left and then pick the fiberfab manual.

February 6, 2015 at 10:38 pm #263022A place that make boat covers might work . I am going to have one built buy a amish tarp shop .
February 6, 2015 at 11:51 pm #263023Any decent upholstery/trim shop should be able to make one, once you’ve located or fabricated a frame. Don’t go with the low bid, though. Remember, you get what you pay for.

let me know how it goes with the amish maker. we’re not near the coast, and, his last experience with a local upholstery shop didn’t turn out well.
I saw somewhere here, about how to make our own bows, and, also, do you think the top from my London roadster would fit?
I do know that if he could even get a cheap used one to use as a pattern, it would help.
February 7, 2015 at 8:36 am #263025I am quite certAin that a LR top will not fit on a FF. Happy Jack, here in New Bern, has a FF with a nice top, and I have a Daytona (dimensionally the same as a LR). I’d recommend a day trip to New Bern.
February 7, 2015 at 8:47 am #263026looks like that what we’ll have to do.
he’s working on getting it road ready, and, mine, pretty much, is, other than a good cleaning, but want to get it up on my lift to do some checking, before I get out on a trip.
trying to finish up on my v6 MGB, so, I can get it off my lift.
does your car have coil over shocks?
February 7, 2015 at 9:09 am #263027About 2 yrs ago, I noticed that my TD had a port list. I added some coil type helper springs (that go around the shocks)to the rear. Last year, we put adjustable coil over shocks on the rear of Happy Jack’s FF. Both work well, fixed the problem and didn’t adversely affect the ride.
Why do you ask?February 7, 2015 at 9:20 am #263028mine seems to be just a little low in the rear, by the way that the rear wheels sit, without anyone in it, plus, it seems to bottom out pretty easily.
I drove it a few days ago, and, that was the feeling I got from the ride.
February 7, 2015 at 9:25 am #263029Yep, rear end sag. Either coil over springs or fancy coil shocks would fix. Air shocks seem to unnecessary harden the ride (in my experience).
February 7, 2015 at 9:31 am #263030it has the coil over shocks on it, now, so, I guess a replacement is in order.
any guess as to what a good replacement would be?
adjustable?
what if I swap the fronts to the rear. wouldn’t it soften up the front, and stiffen the rear, due to the weight difference?

February 7, 2015 at 9:56 am #263031IMHO, these cars are so light in the front end that shocks make a huge difference in the ride.
There is a 6 page discussion on shocks etc here:

thanks for all the great information.
February 7, 2015 at 2:57 pm #263033MG wanna B I emailed MG magic and they said, That there top will fit all tdreplica .It will fit the London Roadster but it will need to be modified a little. I’m sure if you e mail mg magic they will explain what has to be done . When I pick up my boot from the amish I will see what he says about the top and let you know.
February 7, 2015 at 4:28 pm #263034thanks,
it’s for the fiber fab car that my boss bought.
he came by the shop for a little bit, today, but, we didn’t do any work to it.
my top does need a little work, but, is overall, in pretty good shape, so, I’m gonna run the one I have, for a while. bigger fish to fry.
i’ll be waiting to hear how your cover turns out.
thanks
