This eBay seller doesn’t seem to know his MG models very well, and there’s no information about the engine or much else.

September 1, 2011 at 11:54 am #246141This is a pretty nice loking car, at least from the pictures.
The VW engine looks bone stock. Probably nothing to say about it.
I admit I am a little confused.
The seller is sure it is a Fiberfab car. But…
That little “hump” in front of the rear fenders is a Classic Roadsters Duchess detail. The Fiberfabs I have seen do not have that bump out.
Interesting approach to the side curtains. They are not stock and they look like heck. But with the zippers like that, it makes it easier to get in and out when the curtains are on.

September 1, 2011 at 12:19 pm #246142Paul, That car looks like a very early MiGi to me .Notice the bumps do not extend the entire width of the fender/running board as they do on the CR Duchess. It also has a rounded top engine cover that I think only the early MiGis used.
Your comment on the side curtains was much more complimentary than my would have been.
September 1, 2011 at 1:23 pm #246143Those side curtains are just one more reason for me to believe that “TD” really stands for “Top Down”.

And I prefer the silver wheels rather than painting the wheels the body color. And what is the badge of below the windshield post? I do like the spare tire cover though.
I agree it does not appear to be a Fiberfab kit. At least none I have ever seen. Almost looks like it was built using parts from a few different kits. Maybe a prototype?

September 1, 2011 at 4:21 pm #246146My initial sentence did not say “…look like heck.”
I decided to be polite. 🙂

September 2, 2011 at 7:11 pm #246147I contacted the seller about the error in his listing and he wrote back saying he would correct it. I think his asking price was a bit steep for this type of car.
September 2, 2011 at 9:04 pm #246148He’s back, with corrected model, but the price is the same.

September 2, 2011 at 9:38 pm #246150Thanks. I’m not sure. I wasn’t that careful in copying and pasting, so I could have something wrong. I don’t like the side curtains on this one either.
September 3, 2011 at 9:34 am #246151Nother thumbs down on the side curtains. But I like the solid wide-5 wheels with the nipple caps. The first few thousand TDs came through with no holes in the wheels.
Nice car otherwise. Buyers have to know they’re looking at a swing axle car.

September 3, 2011 at 5:46 pm #246152Just noticed that it has a mirror on the drivers door,I haven’t seen that before? I think it would be hard to see safely?

September 4, 2011 at 10:46 pm #246153I have mirrors on both doors, and manage to see just fine. (Note: Ill-fitting top has since been replaced.)

Did you mount your doors with the hinge in the front or is that the way the Lafer comes?
I like the side curtain in that it is clear. Does that improve visibility any?Allen Caron

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackSeptember 5, 2011 at 11:19 am #246155Lafers all came with front-hinged doors and glass side windows. As I never drive in any precipitation heavier than a light mist, mine spend most of their time stowed in the garage.

"Drive Happy"September 18, 2011 at 6:43 am #246157Granted they do not look the pretiest. But look to be more functional, and more like the originals. And the top design looks to give more headroom, which mine lacks.
Sure don’t know about the rest of you folks, but I find that that large blind spot created on the rear (absent)pillar very troublesome when making a lane change.

The painted grill shell and headlamps intrigue me.My Lafer is the TI model, which had a more tapered hood with a slightly smaller, raked grille and almost no chrome. Here’s the only picture I can lay my hands on at the moment. It was taken outside our old house, right after the previous owner delivered it on a flatbed back in February 2007. I’ve since replaced the engine (except for the Weber 2-bbl carb), exhaust system, fuel tank, tires and top, and had the interior reupholstered and recarpeted:
I’m thinking of painting the wheel centers silver and the grille tan or gold. Any thoughts?

September 20, 2011 at 9:59 am #246160I love the car as is, with the blacked out grill and the gold/silver wheels
But what do I know? It’s your car Bill…have at it.

September 20, 2011 at 6:17 pm #246161I can’t decide. One day I like the gold wheels. The next day I don’t. If nothing else, they are different. I do wish they were 15-inch, instead of 14, but I can’t afford to replace them AND the rubber right now — plus, there’s the fake spare cover to consider. Whatever wheels I went with, I’d have to find something similar that could be cut down for that engine deck lid.
As for the grille, maybe I’ll just try to find some slightly wider chrome trim for the mock blades.

1600 cc Type 1 engineSeptember 20, 2011 at 6:48 pm #246162It has a unique look. In spite of the gold wheels the black on black theme is very understated. I’d leave it as it is.
