It’s in south central PA–Lafer front end and headlights, but suicide doors, so if it is it’s an early one.

November 9, 2014 at 4:21 pm #262059My guess: London Roadster.
November 9, 2014 at 5:07 pm #262060Royal my guess too with custom chassis maybe
November 9, 2014 at 5:12 pm #262061Not a Lafer, imho.
November 9, 2014 at 5:30 pm #262062Roy, John, Ed,
I’m really scratching my head here. Are you referring to the green car for sale or to Vicenç’s “white thing”?
Is the London Roadster like the Lafer in that the headlamps are only connected at the grille and not tied in to the fenders?

November 9, 2014 at 6:35 pm #262063LR headlights are mounted to the rad grill only. Other visual LR clues: shortened grill, pinstriping, hinges on the passenger side of hood.
November 9, 2014 at 6:38 pm #262064Thanks, Roy. I’ll get there yet.
November 9, 2014 at 9:43 pm #262065Exactly like my LR
November 11, 2014 at 12:40 am #262066I don’t see anything of the Lafer in that. The headlamps are too close to the radiator, the radiator itself is too thick, the doors (at least the one I can see) are hinged at the rear, and the windscreen is mounted wrong; the Lafer’s looks, and is constructed, more like the original TD’s.
Oh, and also, the bonnet is hinged on the wrong side, plus the hinges themselves are visible. On Lafers, the hinges are hidden.TexAg712014-11-11 00:42:241981 Lafer TI
1600 cc Type 1 engineNovember 11, 2014 at 8:24 am #262067Anyone else think this might be front engined? The body line under the front fender does not appear to have the flat areas that would cover a VW pan. And what you can see of the front suspension does not look VW.

November 11, 2014 at 10:22 am #262068The car above noted MP Lafer looks like my London Roadster below with custom chassis .

November 11, 2014 at 10:34 am #262069Paul, I thought that many/all LR’s had custom front ends and could not be easily hooked up and towed with the VW towbar. Is that wrong?
November 11, 2014 at 10:36 am #262070The body style looks to be a late CMC/Fiberfab kit with a lot of extra white welting. Paul I agree the front end isn’t VW suspension by the bar framework. The side cowls are bolted front and rear and the hood is hinged to one side. Not sure how the Chevette based TD kit was made. Could be one of those. The headlight bracket MAY have been changed to use the ones that are sold by Moss. Just a few things I noticed.

its a LR no doubt. looks just like mine …….the pros on LR custom chassis factory built -its factory built to spec duhhhh.. no short cuts …cons: not much knowledge between kit owners on chassis parts front end running gear .Front end difficult to replace since its custom.jebarry2014-11-11 13:57:46
November 11, 2014 at 2:35 pm #262072I’m getting a real education here. What threw me off was my assumption that the Lafer was the only TDr without the bracket connecting the headlamps to the fenders.

November 11, 2014 at 6:27 pm #262074Thanks for the link to the thread, Paul. Will there be a quiz?
November 11, 2014 at 10:17 pm #262075You can usually tell a Lafer because it’s expensive. But not always.
I think it was the Everly Bros who said it best: “Dreeeeaaaam. Dream Dream Dream…”.November 12, 2014 at 7:24 am #262076It is advertised as a 1974 – LR’s were built 1980 to 1988.
November 12, 2014 at 7:28 am #262077A picture of the other side would have to show the side gas filler cap which is unique to the LR,
There should be LR emblem right by the antenna . My LR has a tow bar hook up on the front frame and is wired. VW tow bar with hook up to match the car,
November 12, 2014 at 12:05 pm #262078Dick do you have a vw pan or custom chassis? The one above and mine has the custom chassis with coil-over suspensions and four wheel disc brakes and VW engines and transaxles.
November 16, 2014 at 2:44 pm #262079I have a custom chassis. disc brakes front – drum rear VW
November 16, 2014 at 2:46 pm #262080I am probably selling soon as I will be moving next year and will not have a garage
November 16, 2014 at 6:42 pm #262081That’s sad, Dick. You driving it much?
