    @nobody

    So these last few weekends I’ve been working on my brake systems putting new shoes in the rear drums and doing a disc conversion in the front. However upon going out for a test drive I realized that the front passenger tire started going flat really quick and I noticed that the valve stem on my current EMPI 8 spoke rims hit the new brake caliper and I need to go to the stock rims.

    I’ve been checking craigslist and the Samba but so far to no avail. So if any of you fine folks have some of the original 4-lug rims laying around let me know.
    Thanks a bunch!

    CIP1 has 4 lug rims, I bought the chrome ones a number of years ago, they are on special now for $69

    Although I would never recommend such a thing:

    Do some careful looking and you might find that you are within a few thousands of them working
    I ground and filed my brand new calipers and because they were so overbuilt, – all’s well.
    Put a few washers behind the studs to help you figure out how much metal to remove.
    My problem showed up when I went from stock VW 15″ wheels to 14″ Triumph Stag wheels.

    Hey Derek,

    If you like your Empi wheels and want to keep them, how about flush mounted valve stems?

    if Paul’s solution works, I like it.  I didn’t know about those aftermarket stems.

    Thanks for the link Paul, those look like they will work perfectly, and although I’m not really attached to the EMPI rims I’d also rather not have to buy new ones.

    I plan on getting new wheels this weekend as well so I’ll just have the tire shop install the new valves and I’ll let you know how they work.
    Also thinking about writing up a post about how and what I did and what I’d do differently if I did this project again, anyone have interest in reading such a post?

    I believe everyone’s build experiences are valuable and interesting.

    Whatever you have to add to the knowledge-base here…please do!

    Alright everyone, over this last weekend I got these flush valve stems in and had new tires put on and they work really well and look pretty good too. They are somewhat more time consuming to use as you have to put the adapter in to fill the tires, but hopefully that shouldn’t need doing too often so I don’t see that as too major of a drawback.

    Glad they worked!
