Maybe someone can help me with finding out what this car is worth or what a good starting price might be if we were to sell it, and do we have a good replica? I am new to these kits and I am hoping to get an idea of what we have. It is a 1981 Daytona MIGI , 1952 MG replica body(serial # 81/53020) on a 1969 VW frame. (Titled as a 1969 VW). I believe it has the original motor which from the stamp on the block (H5053766) it is a 4cyl, 1500cc, 50hp, low compression motor made between ’67 and ’69? It reads 3551 on the odometer so very low miles. Clean car and drives great.
February 12, 2016 at 11:14 am #267249Looks like a nice replica. To really get the best price (or even most accurate answer to your “what’s it worth” question), you should offer more photos.
Interior, engine. Damage, cracking of gel coat? Does everything work?Rust??? Condition of the floor pans?
Mileage on the odometer of a 45 yo car means practically nothing to me. (If the original owner did a poor job of building, and stored it outside for 45 years, without properly preparing the engine, never drove it (zero miles) – it wouldn’t be worth much.
More important might be the age and condition of the tires.
How is the engine? What modifications? Clean? I would be interested in compression pressures if you are going to ask top dollar.
Does it shift well?
Do you have the side curtains? Condition?
Probably somewhere in the $5-7k range, depending on the condition. Possibly a bit more or less.

You are asking about the price “if we were to sell it,” and you referred twice to “what we have.” Are you thinking about buying this, or do you already own it and you want to sell it? If you already have it, why don’t you know anything about your own car? Did you inherit? Because otherwise it makes no sense to ask whether it’s a good car.
Regardless, the advice on value is the same. I agree with everything Royal said. We’d need more information. What does the compression test say? Does it smoke? How is the clutch? Does it shift properly? Are the brakes okay? Does everything electrical actually work? And I’d add this about the odometer: Assuming this is the first odometer installed after the kit was built, AND assuming the odometer cable never broke since the kit was built, it still only shows the mileage SINCE the kit was built. That says nothing about the mileage BEFORE the kit was built. With answers to those and the questions Royal asked, we might be able to give a better answer.johnsimion2016-02-12 13:02:43
February 12, 2016 at 1:59 pm #267251Thanks guys. Sorry about the confusion, I have been tasked to research and try to sell this car for my father-in-law who unfortunatley is very sick and doesn’t know a whole lot about it either. He bought it a few years back from a widower who’s husband had a car collection to help her out. It is not my car and I know nothing about these kits other than the little research I have done on the internet, and was pleasently surprised to find this forum to try and get a few answers. I have driven it a number of times around the block and it doesnt get driven much but does run good. Does’nt smoke. Its always been well taken care of and garage kept from the previous owner and current owner. That is all I know about it. More pics

"Drive Happy"February 12, 2016 at 8:15 pm #267253Roy’s in the ball park. I’d go on the lower end, maybe $4500. The market for these cars is thin. I like the seats. They look comfy.
As Roy said, the condition of the top, rubber, gel coat and floor pan are all pretty key. To his list I’ll add the tins. Looks like the full tin set is absent from your engine. That’s not a deal breaker but the car’s better (and the engine will last longer and won’t overheat) if they’re on there. If you want to sell it for top dollar, install the tins, change the oil, tune it up, polish it shiny, take a bunch of pics and a video of it running, and list it on Craigslist locally and maybe ebay. Be prepared to wait a bit for the right buyer, and be prepared to spend a fair amount of time with tire-kickers.Feel free to point potential buyers to this site. Good luck. -
