Met a new guy today named Jerry who just happens to have an original cream colored 53 MGTD with a green interior. His dad purchased it new in England and had it shipped to the states. He drove it until 93 when he had it rebuilt. (His new paint job probably cost him more than the car did in 53 when he bought it.) His dad drove it a few more years and then was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Jerry purchased the TD from his dad in 98 and has had it since. Interesting story he told me was the factory shipped the TDs to the US with the keys in the ignition. When the dealers went to pick up the cars at the port, the keys usually came up missing. So they (MG) started shipping the cars with the keys in the ignition but screwed another key below the horn on the passenger’s side of the engine bay.

I mentioned about our club and the Carlisle Show and he said he was familiar with Carlisle because he’s from Harrisburg. He didn’t know about our TD replica club. Maybe he’ll join.

    Great story Allen!

Now THAT would be a coup…an owner of an original joining our replica club!

We could be all pompous and tell him he doesn’t qualify! 😆
