The article is about a ’34 Ford replica, but the building tips apply to any fiberglass bodied car.
And it’s nice to see kit cars get some positive recognition in mainstream “antique auto press”http://www.oldcarsweekly.com/restoration/restoration-tips/re storation-series-troubleshooting-a-kit-car-body?et_mid=51493 4&rid=3391938

August 16, 2011 at 11:34 pm #245868Nice find.
Studebaker used the same company that molded the early Corvette bodies and had the same problems. The body parts warped because they were pulled from the molds before they were completely cured. It cost them the first year’s production. Once they figured out how long it took there were few fit problems. The TD kit manufacturers may have had the same self induced problem. There is a message there for someone buying a 30 year old unbuilt kit.
August 17, 2011 at 3:27 pm #245869Great article. I love it when the writer shows what real work looks like, and the subject of the story doesn’t sugar-coat it. Things really do take near forever–and that’s when a pro who knows what he’s doing is involved.
You put a dilettante like me on the job & no telling how long it will take or what it will look like when it’s done.

August 18, 2011 at 10:17 am #245871I’m glad you guys like what we post!
And for the record, I cannot wait to introduce Ed as a “dilettante” next year at Carlisle…’Cause most of the gear-heads will have no idea what I’m saying!
BUT…it’s not true Ed. You are NOT a “…person who claims an area of interest, without real commitment or knowledge.” You have the knowledge. And you certainly need to be commited! I mean, you are committed!

August 22, 2011 at 7:55 pm #245872Paul SOMEHOW you got your issue of Old Cars Weekly ahead of me. Must be you live closer to the publisher. I also liked the Tips section. Lots of good info to be gleaned there as well.

I was thinking of the “amateur” part of the definition. You might recall my hilarious foray into frame head repair last winter. Real shop guys’ll look at that and bury their heads in their hands.
August 22, 2011 at 9:05 pm #245874Even better than getting it early Allen…I don’t even subscribe to the paper OCW.
I used to. But now I only receive their daily and FREE email newsletter.
