I’ve been lurking here and on the Samba. The Samba classifieds has a MGTD kit car for sale and is listed in poor condition. Only one photo and it doesn’t look all that bad. I’m thinking hard on getting it. Should I get this car and it needs parts how hard is it to get parts?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

I found one in “good” condition. So probably not the one you are looking at.
Do you have a link to the one you are looking at?
Post it, and I’m sure you’ll get plenty of advice.
If there is one thing this place is full of, it’s advice.

August 14, 2010 at 5:05 am #241925Big Al you must be refering to the one in california. If I had the time and money I would grab the whole works. If I read the ad correctly you would be getting 4 cars for 1 money, but you should be able to work out a good deal on the 2 mg’s and there sould be enough between the 2 for 1 nice driver and parts left to keep you suplied for awhile.
August 14, 2010 at 2:28 pm #241926Actually its one in Florida. I have to make a business trip near there in a couple of weeks and was going to drive the extra miles to get a look at it and talk with the owner. Just want to be sure that I can get parts for it if I need them.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackAugust 14, 2010 at 5:48 pm #241927Hi Al., I pulled up the Samba site and found the car . It looks like a Fiber Fab kit, which is one of the more widely available brands. MG Magic in Hollywood Florida has some parts for this type but they can get expensive. The VW parts are readily available from several online venders.
It appears that the car has been sitting for some time so you may wind up redoing almost every thing about it. The price seems reasonable to me . The grille alone is easily worth half of the $850.if it is in good condition.
You could buy a car in good condition for what you will have in this one by the time you get it on the road but if you would like to have a car that you built or rebuilt yourself at least you would know it from the inside out.
According to map quest ,it looks like a neat trip to see it.Sometime half the fun is in the search. Go look , you may be on to something.
August 29, 2010 at 10:25 pm #241928I have talked with the fellow ion Florida and the TD is still for sale. I have my kit and I’m a happy camper. The only negative the owner of the FL car is Like Larry said…it’s been sitting outside, uncovered for “a couple of years. You’ll need to restore it.” But hey…the price seems reasonable. Hope someone gets it and brings it back to the glory it deserves.
