I wanted to put racing numbers on my TDr. I had always had some meatballs or numbers that I occasionally, temporarily, put on my sports cars. So, three years ago, I went to a graphic arts and sign company and asked for some numbers in “static cling vinyl”. I had used the static cling before and – no problems.

Let me tell you that after watching countless videos and trying all manner of fixes, I was and am unable to get them to stick on my fiberglass doors. Tries squeegees, water, soap, super cleaning, wax – nada! Nothing worked. (I wanted to be able to remove them. Not be permanent.

So, I finally decided to try gluing them on, but did not meant to damage the finish of my doors. Finally found 3M’s Scotch “Spray Mount” repositional adhesive, which works not great, but pretty good. The stuff is designed for layouts, posters, graphic presentations etc. Seems to be non-staining.

If, short of paint, or contact cement any of you know of a better product, please post it.

Roy, several of the guys on my Cobra site have used GoChecker.com for their static cling decals. I think they will also make custom decals to your spec.(ie numbers on meat balls, etc)  They guys said to call them as they are very helpful.

I used Squire Design. Mike and his wife, I am guessing. I got two 12-inch rounds and a little one in the back, 7-inches. My setup cost under $50 shipped and has held on pretty well. The first 7-inch rear number went bye-bye the first day. I had stuck it too high on the fender, I guess. Since then no problem, though there is a little bubble in it I can’t cure. But 80+ mph=OK. Passenger door side got dirty and a little loose in the garage last year. I peeled it partway off this summer after the new engine went in and cleaned underneath with windex or glass plus. Cleaned the door and the back of the number and put it back and it’s good as ever.
