Thought all of you might enjoy this. 2 years ago a buddy called and asked if i wanted to go to Rockford Illonis and drive back a 1948 Diamond T pickup truck.I said sure 3 days later we left in a rented car to drive this truck back.We arrived there to find a beautiful truck almost a 10.The owner of this was a minister who hobby was car restoring. He had arranged for his car buddies to be there so we had a nice time.We left there late morning. A Diamond T is not a very good truck to ride in no space, no coil springs. Two hours later we were broke down still in illonis across the street from a Autozone. The Autozone dudes new of a guy who rebuilds race cars. He arrived about 6pm.While we were were wating we attracted a of people all very interested in the truck and our road trip. The race car dude arrived and we moved the truck to his garage.A very nice guy who drank good beer and built race cars and only new about fuel injection very little about carburators. We decided to stay at a hotel near by rather than stay with him and his boyfriend. Were we were invited. The next morning after calling around trying to find a truck and a trailer to hall it home we called the seller of the truck to ask him. He said that simple remove the carb adjustment screw blow in there with a air hose very little pressure you have a sticky float. Well we were on our way. 2 hours later we are broken down.Lucky we were near a Chevy dealership .One of these places you pull up to the door and it opens .All we need is a air hose.We pull in and everybody in the place including the coustomers came to look.As it turn out Mr. Goodwrench is not so nice .The mananger comes over and says we to get this out of here its a liabilty for us.All we want is a air hose. Next stop NAPPA we buy a small piece of air hose remove the screw and unstick the float.Every place we stopped (food, gas, sleep) we had to put up with all the interest One time i was getting food to eat on the road my friend was getting gas. As i walked into Arby’s.I heard people talking about that truck getting gas and they were comming from illinois and had a long way to get home .We probably were head lines in the paper nex day.Back home friend and family were taking bets as to how many times we would break down and how long it would take to get home. Our wives were calling us stupid asses and laughing about us.Five days after we left Rockford Illinois we pulled into our driveway unharmed with a great adventure to tell.Someday i plann on buying a antique Mercedes Benz i hope to buy it a long distance from home and drive it home. Its the very least i can do.I will ask my friend to go with me. 🙂 🙂

"Drive Happy"December 31, 2012 at 3:55 pm #253589Today as i was reading my post and the responses.I started to think there are alot of fun car stories out there.Maybe a road trip or driving experence. When i wrote the story i didn’t know where to put it. Would it be possible to add a place in the Fourm to do this. Maybe we could call it On the road again or Road Rash

January 6, 2013 at 4:28 pm #253591I wrote s story about my trip to pick up my London Roadster, about 2 -2.5 years ago. I’m not sure where it is now. I flew up to Seattle and picked the car up in Port Townsend. It was an adventure bringing it back to Phoenix. It limped along, about a day at a time, leaking oil, having parts replaced along the way, and finally dying only 50 miles from my home.
The engine rebuild is almost done. We’re shopping for an electronic ignition and a 2-barrel carburetor to get this puppy on the road, hopefully in less than 2 weeks.
January 6, 2013 at 4:41 pm #253592I’m sending a link to the guy (Greg) that I almost bought a carb from. The only reason that I didn’t is that his carb is the larger variety of the Holley Bugspray which is what you would want. My engine is smaller 1600cc and I wanted the smaller #6244 Bugspray.
